Tascarella or Scruggs

After giving this a great deal of thought I'd have to give each cue a try , the Tascarella in honor of my friend Frank McGowan because of his love for his partnership with Georgia B , then on the other hand I really enjoyed playing with my C18 McDermott cue one of the things I liked about it was the mother of pearl accents on it .
Yes I know they don't make a cue hit better and its all mental which I'm ok with . I'd have to win the lottery to be able to afford either one so they're just a dream of mine .

If you could get the cue built the way you like, the specs you want especially the cue joint, then it’s a dead heat.

However, you don’t see a lot of face faced big pin ivory joints made by Tascarella versus piloted steel or else
sleeved ivory. Those tend to be a little more firm hitting than flat ivory. I think a wood joint by either would be
amazing to play with but both cue makers had extraordinary cue making talent. Tim vs. Pete or Pete Jr. is a
tough call and unless you played with cues made by each cue maker that had comparable specs, it really is
more of a guess on your part. My Scruggs radial pin flat ivory joint cue has become my Golden Fleece cue.

I haven't read all the posts
forgive me
I own both Scruggs (several) AND tasc
truthfully the Scruggs plays better and feels better in my hand
this post above by me is from 2016 (post #68)
whats interesting to me is around covid and alittle after i sold my cue collection
except for a few i really liked how they played
sold all the scruggs and kept tasc (I really like how it plays)
so i guess your opinion can change over time
go figure....

We're allowed to change our minds.

I've only played with 2 Scruggs and both had what I believe is a skinny butt (signature spec of Scruggs?). Two different decade the two I played with and I always like the feel of them. It feels like you're holding a cue all in the same plane. Where a normal cue you can feel the butt being bigger than the shaft. On a Scruggs it just feels like one entire stick. I like that.

Many of these people may have never even hit either. Ive only hit 2 scruggs sneakies. Neither hit as good as my Pechauer sneaky. And I wanted a scruggs awfully bad. Are the steel joint scruggs any better?
Since this post i purchased 3 scruggs. All hit well. One is steel joint, one is ivory or delrin, and a wood to wood sneaky. I play cues against others in my collection. Over long haul I always win more with any of the Scruggs. Just the way it is. Against runde, pfd, schick, barnhart, jim pierce, treadway. All close but I have stayed with scruggs for league.
Finally found a Tascarella for a reasonable price. Ive got a feeling its gonna unseat scruggs. Don't know yet but I can say the sound is different and the hit and feel is as good as people say. Actually I'm a little taken aback by it. And btw the quality is excellent.

see post #104 above
lets see if we come to the same conclusion..... ;)

When you look at what is considered "best of breed" examples from both makers you could not have any more different hit feel and feedback possible.

For Scruggs it's the flat faced ivory joint with a big pin and for Tascrella it's a steel 5/16-14 compression.

Those joints are night and day from each in both hit and transmission and is so closely linked to the shooters preference I honestly don't understand how you can recommend one over the other.

For folks reading this thread for the first time I can not stress how important it would be to shoot with an example of both style before buying unless your a collector and plan on having examples of both in your collection any way.

But the difference is significant and that's just factoring in joint alone not even breaking the ground on very different construction methods each maker used much less wood selection.

TLDR: opinions are like assholes everybody has one and in this situation don't listen to anyone. You have to shoot personally with both makers joint types before buying anything....

if collecting it probably doesnt matter but why not get both.

if for shooting, no one cuemaker makes the prefect hitting cue for you. you have to hit many and take the best hit for you.
even if it turns out to be a cheap plain jane.

I hear a lot about the ivory -big pin stuff, but I've always liked the 5/16-14 piloted shafts Tim made.
Some of that wood was flat out Magic!! Had gremlins in it or something. 😂

The wood to wood sneakies that came out of Tim's shop played very well. Irregardless of who may have made them, TS is on the butt plate.
Kudos to Bob tho.😉
