Unless I'm mistaken, Joey A. mentioned going to Pensacola,FL. this weekend to take paid lessons from John Schmidt and also to head over to Mobile,Ala. and put those lessons into action.

SO, how about a trip report Joey ?

Some of us are interested in what you learned and how you did in Mobile.

Edited to add: in case I'm mistaken about the above, I'll try to remember my mother's sage advice, "old people should be seen & not heard and if you don't have something nice to say, let them eat cake, Amen.......let's eat."
And then we rolled her into a dark closet and kept her there until she quieted down.... and stopped mumbling advice.

It doesn't look like many are interested as you doug but:

Got the lessons from John Schmidt.
Didn't make it to Mobile.
Exhausted from one of the most serious exposures to high level pool that I have ever had.

Having a close-up encounter for MANY HOURS of quality time with John Schmidt has left me speechless and wondering what do I do from here. At times, I think it is best to just pack it in and go back to fishing. When you see his talent up close and personal you realize that talent is relative and he's just got a hell of lot more of it than most people especially me.

I know you want to know Doug, if John can teach and yes he can. Can I learn what he taught and showed? SOME, but not all, unfortunately and maybe that's what's got me bummed out.

We covered so much that I won't attempt to share at this time. It will take time to work on everything that I learned so that I can share it with others.

Did I learn anything? A lot more than I expected and I expected a lot.

Was it worth it? YES

Glad to hear that John's class made your head spin...lol... John is a great guy and extremely knowledgable about every aspect of this game - I am so glad he is teaching others. He has a great personality to be an ambassador for our sport in so many different ways.

After these lessons, we hope to see you posting some high runs over at the straight pool forum... we expect that 150 and out by next week...

trust me Joey... i know exactly how you feel right now... every time i see John he gives me a few tips and sometimes the smallest things can put you into overload until you totally grasp what he is saying.

lol... i didnt say it was free... but i didnt say i paid for it either... he will just have to wonder... :D

THATS one of the great things about having a world champion in your home town and also having him as a friend.

No records, Coop. This wasn't a lesson where he was teaching me how to stroke and no need for imaging me. I do wish I had imaged what he does. I guess I will have to settle for purchasing some AccuStat matches. The one with him playing Luat for the U.S. OPen 9 Ball Championship was awesome.

The record of his wins and how many games he won versus how many games he lost may be a U.S. Open 9 Ball Championship record. NO ONE GOT PAST 8 WITH HIM IN A RACE TO 11. Many had the suffering ended far more quickly. How many games he won versus his opponents is on that particula Accustat DVD. IT IS UNCANNY, since he played no slouches. If anyone finds out if it is a new record, please let me know. If you find someone else who won more games and lost less games than John and still managed towin the OPEN please let me know who they are and when they won it.

For a long time the earlier rounds were race to 13, but I can ask around and get some numbers for you. I think in the race to 11 era, John's achievement can in fact be a record.

Hey Joey i do think that John got beat in the US Open he won and came all the way through the losers side, not positive but I was there and think someone got the best of him. Maybe the worlds best stake horse or John will chime in, I do remember him starting his spankings with Earl when Earl acted like John was trying to rack funny or something. He made a bad mistake making John mad and got whooped.--Leonard

You're right on all counts, Leonard. I forget the match that he lost and can only remember the numerous cans of ass-whup that he rendered. :-)
