Team 9 ball at ABC NYC part 2

Party Pooper! :p

GG, if everyone who participated in discussions such as these were as cheerful as you, I would see nothing wrong with it. Unfortunately, I know that's not the case and I would prefer it if our friends were kept out of harm's way.

Ok folks, let's look at the bright side of this!
How many poolrooms are there in this country could sustain a thread such as this? I think it's great that Amsterdam has such a strong group of players that it can sustain this much of a level of conversation here on an international website!
Most of us across the country would love to have a room like that! If every room in the country were as big as that we would be as big as golf!
Be grateful for what you have.

True dat.

After playing pretty much all of my pool at Amsterdam for the last few years, I cannot really imagine playing anywhere else. I will occasionally go to another place on vacation or what have you, and I always miss amsterdam.

It's a great place to play, and I've learned more about the sport than I thought there was to know.

There are alot great players there who are generous with their knowledge. I've not found this to be the case in other poolhalls.

With regards to who is a strong player, etc, I am much too modest to sing my own praises, but if I were not, I would say that I am probably the most under-rated D player in all of amsterdam.

See, this is why I really discourage threads like these.

Yet, you still respond to this thread.

First, we are discussing in-house ratings. There is a "pro" class. Chris Lynch is currently ranked "Open+" which is one rank below pro. I'm on his team and although I can't say what his exact record is over the past couple years, I know it's a winning one. There is no doubt in my mind his rating is correct. If he were any lower, everybody would complain.

I can understand your defense of your teammate. It's admirable and to be expected. Yet, you yourself started 4 threads critiquing a TAR match and the players' choices of what to do. How is discussing a player's rank any different?

Second, I really wish we could avoid discussing players who do not post here. It's not polite in my opinion. Even though the original poster had good intentions when he started this thread, all it takes is a difference in opinion for it to turn into an argument.

Then stop posting your own critiques of other players!! It's that simple, Jude!! If you don't want it coming back into your yard, stop crapping at other peoples' yards!

Chris Lynch may be beyond "private citizen" status because of his active participation in professional events but I don't think it's appropriate to discuss many of the other players listed or have detailed discussion of a handicapped amateur league. At least, not here.

Yeah, well, GG11 brought it up in the first place. Please pm your thoughts to take this offline.

We should take this discussion off-line and consider creating an Amsterdam Billiards Forum outside of azb.

Oh goody, will this be an open discussion forum or one that is privately censored as this is one is now?

Jude, I only met you the one time at Herbert's many years ago. I think that you're defensiveness is warranted, but you have to expect that someone has the right to call out another player's rating. There are so many levels at so many tournaments, it's gotten out of hand.

There needs to be a nation-wide recognition of "Pro" as well as a Regional definition of Pro.

It's all in the definition, and nobody has a definitive one, not to be a smart-azz, but this discussion could go on all night.

Oh yeah, and what sanctioning body would be responsible for this?

You cant be serious

I dont think my statement was nearly as crazy as what you said a couple weeks ago...

"NYC.... Ginky was and will be the last pro to come out of here."

I was playing regularly on the tour I was a pro player.

This is what I'm talking about. Maybe if you played on the tour regularly it makes you a "pro player" but that doesnt make you "pro speed". I mean there are players out there today that play on the tour regularly that consider themselves pro's and are nowhere near pro speed. I ask these players to gamble all the time. Im not pro speed.

Wait, are you saying I can't discuss a match that was posted live on the internet? What does THAT have to do with this thread?

What I'm saying is that a player's speed was brought up to question on a public forum, what diff is it from discussion another player's choice of shot in a match?

Hellooooooo....

OMGWTF and CUBC agreed to it. That's the difference.

This all happens cause the UPA is the only tour in any sport I can think of that anyone can get in the tournament. You should have to qualify to be a pro and compete in pro tournaments. People walk around with their UPA patches like they earned them or something.

To say that there will never be another professional from NYC is big statement. Its a big city man..... The odds are pretty good. I personally wouldn't bet on it.

But then again, if we are going by your opinion....who knows. Ginky doesn't seem to have one a professional tournament since 2000.... I'm guessing he's not pro speed anymore either?

He sure dont play anywhere near where he did back then.

I think there wont be a pro out of NYC cause we are missing the young talent. The younger generation in NYC is not playing pool. Flaco's kid and Mhett's kid are the only 2 that have a chance. They both are smart and good kids in general and theres a good chance when they get older they will move on to better things then pool.

Jude,

WTF? You brought up multiple threads about position play and discussions about choice. Why can't you suffer through a discussion about your opinions of someone's level of play?

Barbara, it sounds as though you're not expressing exactly what's bothering you. Up until now, I've been nothing but polite so I don't understand your hostility. The threads I posted about the OMGWTF v. CUBC match were about shots from their publically broadcasted match. What's more, I felt I was fair not to take sides in the match's political issues.

If you think I was not jusified in doing so, I will have to disagree with you on this. People gamble privately all the time. If they wanted to avoid discussion, they could have easily opted for a private gambling session. Still, I don't think I called anyone out but if you feel otherwise, please let me know. I would like to know exactly what I said that bothers you.

My message in this thread was to friends of mine in a league I also participate in. I don't think anyone joins a league and expects their play to be discussed on the internet. Joining Team 9-ball at Amsterdam Billiards does not warrant public discussion (positive or negative) on an international website. On the otherhand, agreeing to play live on the internet in a high-stakes gambling session does, IMHO. I mean, to me, the difference is as clear as day.

[In the most Martin Short voice I could muster] ... every party has a pooper that's why we invited you ... party pooper ... party pooper

I still love you Jude. You play some jam up O speed too ... oops, there I go again .... :D

Very well said, Dan! I agree 100%:D I have fond memories of Amsterdam, and nothing else compares. It is without a doubt one of the top 5 things I miss about living in NY.

This is nothing
