Television balls? Why? Am I the only one that thinks this is less helpful?

Edited for clarification - I feel like these Aramith 8 ball television balls make viewing more difficult. What is wrong with using a two color system like the English billiards red and yellows? Am I missing something about the new balls that makes them superior?

Since this post I have realized the numbers are necessary for commentating and so are some sort of color differences. What would solve this problem? Streaming cam tournaments, Simonis cloth, and the new TV balls do not work.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you.

The old sets you confuse 2 balls-the new ones 3! Typical progress for pool.

edit -sorry didnt compute that you were talking Eng 8 Ball.

I've run about 100 tournaments (Tours/Yearly Events), at a minimum of 15 different venues. One thing about pool is most places/managers/owners are very stubborn and hard headed, also most pro caliber players for that matter.

You cant tell them anything, they know everything. At least they think.
And they can no way think outside of the box to help prosper the buisness.

English reds and yellows are even harder, its very difficult for the commentators to quickly describe what ball they are talking about!

Aramith tv balls were confusing for the 2016 US Open 9 ball. Hard to differentiate the 3, 4 (pink), and 5.

I've never seen a "english 8 ball tv set".
I'm guessing you are talking about the pro cup tv set.
What's wrong with the English red and yellows? Try to play 9 ball or 10 ball with them.

Am I the only one who prefers the Tv set over the regular one? (Talking about Aramith, NOT cuclops. I hate cyclops tv set. the 7 is blue? really??)

Vote with your wallet. If the color scheme weren't effective, people wouldn't buy them and the manufacturer would stop making them.

The TV color balls, along with Simonis 860, and Texas Express 9-ball came about because the major brands wanted to showcase pool on TV.

Well, cameras and TV have a funny way of changing colours. You need to account for that and some colors are just indiscernable or very hard to properly reproduce.
Also there is a lot of pre-setup and calibration to be done beforehand for the cameras.

That's why there's the TV set and I'v never had any problems discerning balls.
I also play with my own TV set of Aramith Pro balls - women looove the pink ball :embarrassed2:

Cheers, chill out!

^ I agree with MG.

If I am given the choice of regular set and a TV set I'll take the TV colours every time. I like the way they look and have never shot at a wrong ball because of their colour

I also like to watch matches with the TV colour set, they are more distinguishable than the traditional set is, especially on poor quality videos

You must be talking 8ball. The t.v. sets are easier to see when viewing on t.v. I don't like them for playing at the 'hall just cause i'm used to the traditional colors. The only time you see the casino(red-yellow)balls is in British 8ball.

A few years back Accu-Stats did a Make it happen 8 ball event using the red and yellow balls. While it did help to see potential patterns it was not so great for commentary. I don't have any problem with the Aramith colors and think in a lot of cases they are better for tv( or internet) than the regular colors. The Cyclop skittle colors are much more difficult to distingush, particularly the 6 and 7, 13 and 14.

I think a lot of people in this forum are glad the nobles didn't dismiss not being able to play lawn balls when the weather was bad as a "first world problem." Maybe there is always room for innovation.
