Templates Work The Best For Racking But I Hate Them.

You can get all the balls frozen without using any rack at all. That includes six ball, nine ball and any fifteen ball rack. You just have to have played enough in old pool halls and dive bars where racks simply weren’t available.
Mexican rack? Only seen Latinos do that move. That really work?

Thats really all you are doing with a triangle, the triangle just makes it quicker.

I can't stand template racks. Makes the game too easy, especially for pro 9-ball.
I love pro tourneys with triangle racks. So much more randomness/unpredictability, old school clusters, dry breaks, and drama.
OG pool.
Templates are for the weak.

I find that the template racks are the most reliable for that "perfect" rack feeling. Especially if you're on a more worn out table at a less savory league bar one night but I agree they are by nature flimsy or easily damaged. I also hated having to travel with them. I couldn't find a non-obnoxious way to carry them around and they just added clutter to my setup and my biggest issue was leaving them behind. I've lost three 9ball racks in 6 months because I just forget them. All this to say I eventually got fed up and decided to make my own solution to my issue that I think addresses these problems for those that want to use the templates. Check out magicrollbilliards.com if anyone is interested.

I actually love the randomness as well for the pros, they're good enough to run out anyway without a formula break. I've run into some extremly high SL players in tournaments/leagues and if we used the template I would never get a turn at the table. But... when I'm playing even, I love the consistency of a tight rack with the templates. We both get a great break and it's anyone's game.

The rack the ultimate pool league uses looks ok especially for carrying with you. The rear is open and it folds. I've only seen it on TV so it may not be as good as it looks.
My buddy has this rack and it's actually really nice! There's a learning curve to using it though and it's not cheap... almost $100 usd. But when the table isn't nice like some of the league bars I shoot at then it's at the mercy of the felt like every other rack and the template is the only thing that can save it then.

I’m using the Delta Elite 13 rack now all the time. I left mine at the pool room and 2 other players did the same.
The predictability of using templates favors players with powerful breaks. The Delta Elite racks the balls nicely
and all the balls are tight and touching but the breaks disperse differently and are definitely less predictable.

I wish Delta still sold the cast version. It was only 30 or 40 bucks, and works great.

Great rack but they were so loud lol

Honestly I just the wood rack that came with my diamond. I don’t get to use a template rack at leagues or tournaments and I just don’t feel like they really tell me how my break is when practicing.

The idea is to fill the holes with retractable steel rods, that create divots to place the balls, and then go flush immediately after breaking. The problem is that the 90 degree sharp edges between the slate surface and hole inner diameter will wear out the cloth at those points, as you pointed out. Plus it is quite a commitment for an experim
Perhaps it would be easier to just put those little white hole punch protectors on the slate directly and then cover the table over them?
