Terrible coverage...

Is it my imagination or do people nowadays express varying forms of entitlement more than say 10-20 years ago?

Is it because the internet has created a culture of free that people complain when things are not given to them for free fast/good enough?

YES, I too was disappointed to not be able to watch the live stream but hey sh1t happens; also seeing the brackets live or after the fact is the same difference. When I used to gamble on sports I could never stand to watch them anyways all I needed was the end result. (yeah I know I'm weird)
From what I heard the players were very happy with the tournament and THAT is what is of the ultimate importance. I am positive that Rik and everyone else will take all the problems that occurred into consideration for the next one and make it an even better event; that's how things will get better. Let's focus on the positive and what this tournament contributed to a normally quiet summertime season.
Congratulations to everyone who helped make this event a success and I hope it becomes even bigger and better in the future

I agree. With this being their first big tournament/show, I'm sure media coverage didn't occur to them. Making sure things ran smoothly was their priority and from what I've been able to gather, everyone that was there from the players to the spectators were pleased as pie.

I'm sure there were bumps in the road as they experienced the "learning curve". Since they've already stated that they want to do this again, I'm sure they'll be discussing those "bumps" and what they can do to improve upon it. This is why I suggested taking the idea of media coverage to them in a constructive way.

Did they contact the media (I don't subscribe to any so I don't know) or did they rely on getting the word out on the forums via word of mouth? There are a few unknowns so no one but those making it happen really know for sure.

Next yr whoever promotes the event should contact the media to see if they will be able to send someone to cover it. If they cannot physically send someone to the event, then at the very least the promoters could find someone from their camp willing to either call the media each evening with updates, or type up an update to send to the media so that they can put it on their website. Just a couple of thoughts on how to possibly handle things next yr, coverage wise.

As for this yr, I did like most did and decided to be resourceful with the tools that I had. I searched this and other forums for posts from people that were there. This and another forum had sufficient posts from those people to keep me happy. So what if it wasn't on the homepage, most people sign on to read the forums anyway so its not like anyone had to really go out of their way to find the info that was available.

To those of you that were there and that posted your experiences, thank you.

It's not your imagination at all, people are like that so much these days and it gets worse every year. I remember as a kid in the 70's I tune in to watch the yankees on a tv with just a regular antenna and sometimes, there'd just be bad reception, and that was that, we didn't complain, it was just part of life.
Once I was in a Starbucks and a woman with a laptop asked me if I knew anyplace in the area where she could get internet access and I said you can get it here you just have to pay for it and she looked at me with utter disdain and disgust and said " I absolutely refuse to EVER pay for internet access" and she looked at me like I was an idiot for even suggesting it!

what ?

of the Gem City Classic. To hype that tourney up the way they did and not give any good coverage was pretty sad. I got a link to a bracket sheet that they didn't update. Live stream was a flop and then nothing to just try to make up for it.

you should definatly apologize to matt for your unreasonable outburst !

if you refuse to see why then you are truely a jerk and you should be

kyturdmaster ! and i don't think the ky is for kentucky bucky !

oldzilla...I'm not going to apologize to anyone. I feel no need to. Maybe I in some peoples mind was "harsh". The live feed wasn't a big deal. I tuned in to the live feed to check back here and there when i wanted to see who got by each round. I will say that Matt answered me when i asked how a certain person was doing...so kudos for that. It's not my fault nor my place to say I'm sorry for that. My main goal was to find out how a certain person was doing. It was starting to bother me to have to keep calling his wife for results just for her to tell me she doesn't know because he hasn't called her yet.

If I could afford to travel the world I personally would be happy to keep people informed of how the tourneys were going. I got a link that listed the winners for the first round and on that page it said "keep checking back". I kept checking back for nothing.

I never once called anyone a name here but seems like (oldzilla) thinks that is the better way to do things. I see that for some of the people here you need to be in "their click" to be heard right. I didn't make my post to shun anyone. I shunned the coverage that was hyped up.

I started reading AZ forums a few years ago and made my first post to defend someone that was a good friend of mine. I along with his wife was dissapointed about the coverage of the tournament.

Lets go from here. If anyone else wants to call me names and show that side of themselves then let's go...let's hear it. I'm a big boy and I can take it. If you truly understand my side I'd like to hear you too.

Man, you just don't get it !!

If you had gone to a pay site and dropped a few bucks to watch the tourney and the site went down and you didn't get what you paid for THEN you would have a ***** !
As it happened it was listed here for free . You weren't out anything ! The only loser was the the guy that took his equipment to the tourney ( For nothing) only to have it crash and burn after he got there!
So instead of thanking him for his effort and acknowledging that he was out a lot of money for the equipment that broke. YOU on the other hand get on here and whine about not getting to see the event ..
As far a clicks on this forum .. Sure there are ! Pool on the top level is a very small group of people . They also tend to look out for each other !
One thing is for sure . With posts like yours you don't have to worry about joining one any time soon !!

Jeeze !! Some folks !!

And by the way He spent most of the tourney sitting in the corner trying to get his equipment up and running ( For you) And didn't get to see hardly any of the event !!!
I know becouse I was there ...

and you wjpjr for the first time I'm going to say this about anyone...you are an idiot.

Because you haven't read anything I've said.

If I'm good enough friends with someone to sweat their status in a tournament like you were sweating your friends results, I generally ask that friend to call or text me to let me know how they're doing, or if I know someone else at the event I ask them to keep me updated on how so & so is doing.

There are other options outside of websites & streaming to get info. Pool isn't as big as other sports so it doesn't get nationwide media coverage on the big networks (or anywhere else for that matter). Because of that, we have to do what we can to stay informed. You're pretty harsh on the promoters and media for not reporting but have you put any blame on your friend for their lack of reporting? I've known players that are very conscientious of their spouses and/or friends and text or call with updates regularly through out the tournament. If you haven't already, maybe you should lay some blame on your friend for not reporting back when they knew good & well their wife was sitting at home waiting to know along with their good friends.

Wow it is amazing that you see just your point... and dont come close to understanding the circumstances.
Enough already when your wrong just shutup and apoligize and act like a human being!!!!
And its pretty clear to any one that your argument is just plain Silly.
