The 43rd annual tournament, now a memorial for Terry Stonier, finished a little after 6 pm today.

1st. Amar Kang

2nd. Billy Palmer

3rd. George Michaels

Maybe someone else can fill in the payouts and remaining top 8 out of a 98 player field. I came back for the last couple matches.

Great tournament as always. Terry's son David, and tournament directors Murphy and Angel, keep it running smoothly.

Yours truly made an early exit. Maybe next year.

I just spoke with Angel O (TD there) and 4th place was Rodney Wynn.

184 matches Saturday starting at 1220 and finishing up around 1130pm

Great job Angel and the staff at the Jointed Cue.

No one mentioned that Tony A was there or not.

This was from the Tournament announcement section posted by Angel (TD)

98 Players $4900+$500 added = $5400 Total purse.
1st Amar Kang $1200
2nd Billy Palmer $800
3rd George Michaels $550
4th Rodney Wynn $400
5th-6th Frank Nordmann $300

7th-8th Mike Gann $225
Ralph Daloian $225

Terry Stonier Memorial

This was my second trip to the Terry Stonier Memorial and it is a blast to play in. I met a lot of new people and I even put my 14 year old son in to play. He did go two and out but for his age he stayed incredibly composed and played quite well. As he gets used to these tournaments he will start doing a lot better. He said he was completely nervous but you could not tell by watching him play. I think the tournament staff did an outstanding job keeping the tournament going and down to the last 8 players by 11:30 Saturday night.

Jimmy Mataya told me the man on the left was Terry. Floyd added that "Old Stones ran some great events."

Wow!
43rd annual event.

BTW - that is Terry in the picture , next to Weenie Beenie, Fats, and Rempe. Terry was a pretty cool guy.

I went to that event (a couple of us came down from Alaska) somewhere around early 1970's or so. Fats did a show there and it was held at a hotel. (El Cortez??)

I got to see Kieth, Ronnie Allen, Bucktooth, Cole Dixon - and many others that were famous back then. Everyone ate breakfast in their restaurant and the BS got pretty deep. A lot of gin was played back then.

This looks like a picture from that event.

Maybe the El Rancho? I think there was one tournament held at the Senator Hotel in Sacramento.

Bob Jewett - you are right again!!!

It was the El Rancho. What year was that?
But that was the year I was there. Rebco Tables.

My first BIG tournament.

(PS-plus that is where I got to meet Tony Annigoni!!)

I'm thinking 1976-77 or so for the last El Rancho. I first heard Bucktooth yacking about "Kiether on the Ether". Cole was feared by all. Good times.
Terry had a shop just inside his room where you could watch him working on cues.

These are a couple of cue's that Terry made for me in the 80's. I had one just like the linen
wrap one made for me by Terry when I worked for him in 1970 at the place he had on Fulton Blvd. It
was stolen when I was in a drunken stupor at Beale AFB so when I got out of the service I bought
some ivory and he made these to replace the missing one. Terry was an exceptional guy. His son David still is.
