test Improper Storage of Cue and Shafts

perfect example of improper shaft storage

top cue with its 2 shafts had been improperly stored, the shafts were barely used and look at them.
dark area is chalk contamination from an old favorite case that had improperly stored shafts for years.
chalk dust contaminated the case fabric lining from top to bottom and unprotected wood shows that.

bottom cue and its 2 shafts were stored correctly, this set appears almost new.
its been used plenty.

shafts go in joint protectors down, then butt follows nose first.
why would you think to do it any other way.

Very cool whiskey i wondered why shafts turn brown like that? I use tip protectors and avoid the problem all together.

I do it exactly the opposite. Why? Because I've had cues go through a soft case
and the joint damaged by the ground. I figured that having the tip (which I can replace)
and the bumper (which provides protection) near the danger point (the ground/floor)
would be smarter in case (get it?, case) it happened again.

Does the direction of the cue really affect bluing and other such things? Really?

I thought the browning of the wood was due to oxidation and the presence of air? I was under the impression that the sanding removed the finish and caused this along with the oil in your hands removing the finish from the line up???

it's grey/blue, chalk particle dust.
throwing the shaft in tip first contaminates the lining from top to bottom.
