Testing a new cue

Was wondering if there are certain shots you should try out with a cue you are thinking of buying or if you just shoot random shots to get a feel for it?

I play the spot shot with high inside english...for me, the first shot is the most important..
...if I can send it to the jaws, I'll probably buy it.

Find out how it feels with centerball. If you like the feel, then use high low and side and see how much that feeling changes. The more drastic (negative) the change the worse the cue hits. That's a good starting point...

The cue should be relatively consistent from center to side..

This is excellent advice.
