The state of Texas legislature is going to pass a smoking ban for all businesses state-wide when they next get in to session. Until such time, Round Rock is still one of the few places left in the area to smoke and play pool.

G Cue Billiards is a smoking establishment and has regular patrons who frequent it because of this ability to smoke. We have installed two exhaust fans that eject smoke outside during peak hours, which most certainly will be the case during this tournament.

Allowing smoking certainly does not reflect on our "professionalism" nor our love of the game of billiards.

There we have it from the MAN himself.

Smoke or not, I'm cranked about this one!!!

Great!

That's great news on the smoke fans! Fast Eddies has been using such a system and it works pretty good!

Until such time, Round Rock is still one of the few places left in the area to smoke and play pool. It's also one of the few places I refuse to spend time and money because of this. Dare to be smoke free, or at least bring the ventilation system up to snuff and I just might show up and help support your business.

We have installed two exhaust fans that eject smoke outside during peak hours, which most certainly will be the case during this tournament. Maybe it's just me, but I do not feel that a pool room has to be a smoke filled room. There is a middle ground, but a couple of exhaust fans just isn't going to cut it.

You may love the game, but I don't believe you extend that love to all of your patrons. And that is just not professional. I played in one TX Open back in the late 90's. The smoke was so bad then that I couldn't concentrate as my eyes were constantly watering. I haven't played in the Open since then. If this is Shane's first time to play in the Open, then he is in for a rude awakening. Don't be surprised if he doesn't come back next year, even if he is the defending champion.

Wonder why

It's no wonder 3 other pool rooms have decided to quit running this tournament in its 35 year history and tournaments in general have declined across the state. It takes literally 10's of thousands of dollars and 1000's of man hours to put on an event like this and you and others come on here every year and do nothing but bash my business and complain.

I invited you to come by and talk with me about your concerns last year and welcome others to do the same rather than a public crucifixion.

But I guess that would be too mature and professional.

No wonder?

If there have been so many of us complaining, maybe it's you that's just not getting the message? You decided to post on this forum. And like it or not, you have to accept the good and the not so good. I don't remember receiving an invitation and I don't think I would have taken you up on it. You already know what the issues are anyway. Complaining about how much it costs and how much time it takes to put on a tournament is not mature, nor professional. I thought you loved this game? It should be a labor of love for you, shouldn't it?

Best wishes.

Although I will not be competing or in attendance, I do want to acknowledge GCue and the TD for putting on this event. I know it's hard work, but people will look back and remember you for your efforts. To me that's the prize. I hope this year is the best ever and I hope everyone makes the trip safely. Good luck to all and I will be rooting for the under dogs.

Actually what I have bolded is not accurate. Tournament across Texas have been flourishing. Fast Eddies have had record numbers. Bogies in Houston just had 92 last weekend. Fast Eddies 9Ball Tour had 115 in July. Legends in League City has had full fields in their amateur events. My tournament in Waco has consistently had 40-50 players in our 1 day event.

This tournament will be huge!! Like Gary/Kevin said, (I don't know who is posting for Gcues) soon the smoking ban will state wide. Until then we will endure. I'm glad there is some effort being made with the ventilation.

Look forward to seeing all my friends there!!!

People go to different pool rooms and bars for many different reasons.

G-Cue has it's clientel and it's not as if they just opened last year. After a period of time you develope a loyalty to those who support you and learn to accomodate them as best you can within the law.Changes are often hard.

My hat is off to othe Wellings for putting this event on every year and if you think they do it for the profit, I can assure you, you are dead wrong. This is the oldest running event in US history which is long in tradition and many of us have worked pretty hard to get it back to what it should be. G-Cue should be appluded and thanked for their efforts.

It is not a perfect world.

What are the odds of driving down on Friday night and still getting a room close by?

Pretty good. I have run into this many times and always found something. Try the Candlewood at 512-828-0899 and mention the pool tournament.

so far I have not heard anyone here trying to BASH your business or effort by putting this event together. All we are doing is simply trying to suggest you how to make it even BETTER for your business, pool lovers, pool players and pool images...etc
I personally dont mind to pay 10-15 entry at door just to watch some great pool during the event, but paying to get my lung blacked, eyes irriated is totally another story.

We all love pool and appreciate how much work you have done for this event to happen, and that's exactely how we are trying to help by providing our (customers) honest feedback/suggestion to you.

we care so much and we speak up, even it's on internet, but we are real people.

thank you again for your effort and consideration!

I only quote Big C for the fact that I hope G-Cue listens to, and acknowledges, the complaints voiced in this forum. I understand how hard it is to put on something like this. And, trust me, I do applaud and appreciate G-Cue for the effort. But, I don't think anyone (not even the smokers) would bark too loud at making this event (not the everyday bar) smoke free. I just came back from the APA National events in Vegas. There were literally thousands of players and the there was no smoking allowed in the tournament rooms. Smoking is generally allowed in the building - just not during this event. I never heard anyone complain about having to go outside to smoke. And, they had to go a lot further from their table/teammates/friends to get outside. Most people understand that a large crowd, small venue, and a thick cloud of smoke don't make for an enjoyable experience. For me, it just barely remains a bearable experience....

I hope the exhaust fans do the trick and it isn't an issue. But, just thinking about how bad it was in there last year is making me second guess why I entered the tourney. And, for the record, I have said this to many friends: "This year will be one awesome event. Probably the best player in the country will be there and so will many more top pros. If you want to see some truly great pool, it's well worth the price of admission and dealing with the crowd. But, wear a gas mask because of the smoke."

...Thanks for listening...

Looking forward taking my chances (however slim they are) against someone like SVB.

If you plan to play, I advise you to get those entries in now as there are already over 100 paid. I predict this to fill by about 1:00 pm Friday afternoon.

I thought there was a WPBA ranking limit. I see Kim is ranked 24th. Maybe that's the cut off.

See you there, Stroker! I expect a hug!! :)

The top 32 are excluded from play in the ladies event.
