Howdy Charlie Bryant,

OK I have to ask this. I saw you play Jeanette Lee at the 2004 Derby City Classic. It was quite entertaining as the two of you traded good-natured quips.

When you were on your last 9-ball you took your 5-minute break and I always wondered why. As you were walking out Jeanette exclaimed "Oh c'mon put me out of my misery"

I assumed it was some sort of retaliation for her extremely slow play in the banks division. I had some friends that literally timed her with a stopwatch and she was averaging 3 to 4 minutes between shots. Fortunately Johnny Brumback was not rattled by this and he put her out of her misery in the next match.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Wally in Cincy

Hi, Wally I was not trying to slow play I just needed to take my break. My stomach was bothering me the whole tournament.

On the nine ball in the last game and you took your break because of your stomach? Cmon Charlie, your first answer and you give us this?

If your stomach is hurting, it's hurting. If you're on the last ball, and something is really bothering you, wouldn't you get up and fix the problem instead of rushing the shot to get it over with? What Charlie said makes alot of sense.

When you play pool on the pro level, actually, when you play pool at ANY level, you find out really soon to listen to your first instincts. I'm trying to learn from my mistakes and if that means taking a break on the last 9-ball of the match because I've not had my break, or because I'm not feeling well, that's what I'm gonna do. I'm still human at the "pro-level" therefore I still make mistakes; so I try to keep a clear mind on EVERY shot, in every game, at every match. Believe it or not, I've missed a shot or two like that in my pool-playing career that has cost me the set. Also, if you pay close attention to my game there have been times that I've taken my break after the first, second or third game in a match that is a race to 11. Many things that the spectators don't see, such as nervousness, and remembering situations "de ja vu" (don't know how that's spelled) do influence the final outcome of a match. Just the facts, whether you agree with them or not.

Hey Charlie,

Welcome aboard and I'm sure you will learn fairly quickly which posts to ignore and which ones have something besides negative connotations to them. I think I speak for 99% of the board when I say we are happy to have you.

Regards,
Dave

Watched you play Yeong saturday. You sure do have one hell of a break.

One thing I did find out watching pros play is that you give any pro a chance and he will run out. And they all string racks. And sometimes an 8-zip lead turns into a
9-8 loss. Not often, but you all think that given a chance at the table you will win.

Looking forward to watching you play again.

Jake
