Maybe this would work. When you look at the great game of 14.1, it starts off with who wins the lag, then that player chooses to take or give away the safety break and must drive whitey and 2 balls to the rail (I know one can attempt the corner ball bank). Why not try soft break 10 Ball all balls down, must drive 3 balls to the rail or BIH. Breaker only Breaks, does not shoot after first stroke, , incoming players choice, take it or roll out or give it back, opponent can also roll out. One Pocket has a similar start/feel to it that straight pool does, except when corner ball goes/should it be treated like 8 ball break? Snooker probably begins like 14.1.

The blasting of the break, should it be a concern, soft break could work for 9 ball.

does not shoot after first stroke,

What is the point of this? I mean, I seriously have no idea why anyone would barely break the balls in a rotation game... the incoming player would never take the shot because there's no point in making the 1 ball since the 2 is likely still in the pack. Or the 3 or 4 or 5 or whatever. 10-ball is a rotation game, a run-out game, and the first rule of those games is that if you can't run out - don't start.

If you want to play 14.1, play 14.1, not 10.0. If you want to play 1 pocket, play 1p.

At least with 9B, all these threads trying to change the game are all trying to solve a problem... what's the problem with 10 ball this post is trying to solve?
