The APA should try these improvements

To each their own. I play APA for the fun, camaraderie and friendly competition. The monetary awards are a joke when you consider ROI based upon hours invested. IMHO, if someone is that solely focused on using APA as a vehicle to winning a free trip to Vegas, get some game and win the individual qualifiers or go to some pool halls and win some money gambling.

Personally, I don't even want to go to Vegas. Been there done that. It is such a pain once you get there and have to play all hours of the day. Just like you, I believe in friendly competition and some camaraderie also. But, however, I still believe in winning, and whatever strategy it takes, whether it be dumping or whatever, this is what I call fun. Just like a chess game. There are idiot captains who can't think and I personally have fun taking advantage of their mistakes. Call it what you want; just try not to be a Mr. Goodie Two Shoes :D

Good point. But, IMO, if a 2 (especially sandbaggers) started to win too much they would be moving up to the SL3 level. The APA would have to tweak the system. Also, don't forget, if the innings get too low the SL2 will go up again. And in my first statement the rules I proposed were only a starter system, or a for example.

The point about the 2 going up is valid. If they beat a 6 or 7, in general, the innings will go down substantially. However, therein lies a big problem. Because of this special handicapping system, you've now moved a 2 to a 3 and they're really not capable of competing with another 3 even up. So now they're going to have to get better or live with getting their butts kicked by 3's and 4's for a number of weeks before they move back down to a 2. I can't imagine any of that would be fun for the 2 player.

In general I think the way to improve leagues and some other things is to ask the other players privately how they feel and what they think/want. Come up with what you all want on paper, go to the league opperater and tell them what you want, you are the custermer and should be heard. If it's a reasonable request it shouldn't be an issue. But they should know that this is what lots of the people want.

Sort of happened in tournaments out my way. Guys didn't like how the handi capping was done. Said hurt them where it counts. Come to the tournaments and watch as a big group. After 2 - 3 tournaments the directer might be more open to hearing your opinions. They didn't have the gritt...

i actually called our league op and asked that the new rules be put in place asap. they did like 2 or 3 areas in 010. the rest to follow apparently i think it will stop the sandbagging a little bit. and maybe teams will stop playing 2s on me. i dont mind i still have fun but its much more fun playing another 7 than shooting 6-7 racks uncontested.

If they want to start giving these 2's and 3's even more of an advantage they need to start giving us 7's push outs in 9 and jump cues being legal in both...No offense to lower skill level players but most teams already know that these players (or most, not all) aren't terribly serious about the game and have them in place in order to field the strongest team possible. You don't want them winning all that much do you? Then the 23 rule reallllly bites you in the A** worse than it does already.....

"They" aren't talking about any such thing.

The OP has made some of his thoughts about what he might like to see changed. The rest is all discussion.

"They" likely won't make any changes based on a thread in a discussion forum.

when it comes to tournaments... it used to be the first team to get 3 wins... with the new point system - what will be the points needed for a team to win in a tourney?

i agree with both of these.

my league has not switched yet so i haven't seen the new scoring in real life yet. both of the above posts make sense to me... matching up a 2 or 3 so one win gets them to the hill (and thus 1 point for the team).

on the other hand... i'm also thinking about playing high players against lower players (a sl6 vs sl2 or 3) hoping they will get 3 points for the team. the gamble with team points would be a 3-0 for a nice win or only 2-1 if they give up a game to the lower skilled player.

This is the first session we moved to the new scoring system so we haven't actually played in any playoffs or tournaments with this scoring system yet, but I supposed it will be similar to the 9-Ball where the team that makes the majority of points wins. In this case with 8-Ball, the maximum theoretical points is 15. If a team gets to 8 points technically the other team will have zero chance if winning.

I haven't played APA for several years now, but when I played, the only way a 7 got matched up against a 2, was if the 7 level player was put up first and the skill level 2 got dumped on him. This being the case, it was the level 2 player's team that made the decision, so who cares if they get their butts kicked? Obviously, their own team didn't care.

My apologies if I offended you but I thought the "they" that the OP was talking about was the APA decision makers....I have played in the league for many years so my opinion from my perspective is valid even if not shared by others. I didn't mean to push any buttons if I did....

No offense taken.

Sometimes folks post at the end of a thread, not realizing what the original point was. Your post made it appear that you thought the APA was suggesting making these changes.

So I apologize for "assuming"...

From my experience playing in APA, it wasn't that the other team didn't care. None of the other players on the team thought they could beat me so they sacrificed a 2 thinking the other players had a better chance of winning vs other players on my team. I always laughed when I was put up and other team throws a 2 while there are three 6s on the team who wouldn't even make eye contact.

No problem at all! No apologies needed.
