The best place to live for a pool player

Hi all
Where is the best place to live for a pool player and where all the champions live?

And which country is that? Afganistan? I bet Bin Laden has his own pool table.

The best place...

Hi bazarus,

What games do you like or want to play and at what level?

If you like bar box, I highly recommend Las Vegas. There are several tournaments every night. Some of the events are free entry! They want you at the bar or video poker machines, not the pool tables! There is either 8 ball or 9 ball league play every weekday night. BCA, APA, Southern Nevada and probably ACA. Lots of big table action as well. Only two problems. Vegas is a long way from anywhere by car. Phoenix and Reno are seven hours. Denver and San Francisco ten hours. The rest is desert! The second is gambling. If you have even the slightest problem, stay away! Did I mention it is HOT during the summer?

Bazarus, this depends, in part, on whether you see action or tournaments as your chief means of developing your game.

If it's tournament play you seek, then I'd say you might want to live in the Northeast, perhaps New York. The nearby Joss Northeast Tour is the best regional tour going and has super-tough fields (which you can check out by reviewing the results of that tour's events on AZB). It has more events than other great men's tours like Florida Men's or Viking. You'd also be relatively close to where the Planet Pool Tour events are held, so your opportunities to compete in top-flight regional tourneys near home would be quite numerous. New York city itself has a handicapped tour called the Tri-State tour and has several weekly handicap nine ball events.

Nonetheless, New York is not a big pool action city. If it's action you seek, there are other threads dealing with the subject of where it's most easily found.

Reno

I really enjoy Reno. I can find a tourney most any night of the week. There is action too. Sac is "just over the hill" and San Jose is close enough for an easy trip when we want to go on the road a bit. Vegas is 7 hours away and its got HUGE action. But thats just me. I think the really cool thing about pool is you can play it anywhere. Maine to California.

Manila and Taipei for overseas.
Here, Florida and the tri-state area I think.
Where is the worst? San Diego.

Probably something like this.

Hi, my favorites games are 9 ball & 14.1, but not on bar tables, so I guess Las Vegas is not good for me, although I gotta stay away from slots machines  I'd like to be in a place where there is a liitle bit of everything.
Recently I've been thinking to move to Virginia.

New York sounds great, but unfortunatelly for a poor emigrant(that would be me :D ) its way to expensive to live, besides I'm single, so its even worst.

What is wrong with Little Rock?

Fats

Since 1992 I've been living in many places including 4 European countries. Now I live permanetly in US and Little rock is worst place I've been so far, not only for pool, but especially for people that lives here.
Go on a month vacation someplace nice like Miami, than come back to Little Rock, take a look around and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I have been around a little. As far as pool players go Little Rock isn't that bad. The level of play might not be great but the people are basically the same as anywhere. Why are you so bitter with the people there????? Give them a chance maybe they will grow on you.

I live in VA., and it ain't cheep. N. Virginia is where the money is. I live about 30 miles outside Wash. D.C.. There are about 50 pool halls within 50 miles of my house. There is any kind of action you want. The Metro area is very diverse community. We even got aliens.

Hi Rocky

I've been living in Memphis 4 years, I even worked in one of the best pool hause in mid south a few years ago(High Pocket's) which one went down, and not much is going on there. Also couple other really good places went down. What was left only have bar tables which ones I don't like.
Besides Memphis is way to hot, especially humidity and with my poor health I have to stay away from that kind of whether.

I've checked some places in VA that I like and those are Norfolk & Chasepeake(I wouldn't have to drive 1000 miles for the Open :D ) The cost of living(according to a net web site) is 4% below average, so its not bad.
