I have only custom ordered 2 cues. Neither was delivered as requested.
The first cue was delivered the day before I was having a laminectomy. It was delivered 1.5 oz. heavier than I requested and I had to decide that day to accept or return the cue. The guys in the pool room talked me into accepting it because they said I would really learn to like the 20.5 oz. cue, which never happened.
For the second cue, I had plenty of e-mail communication prior to making the order. I also struggled with which veneer colors and point wood to use. I decided on traditional colors (black, orange, green, natural with kingwood points and butt) that I thought would be easy to assemble into a reasonably good looking cue. I am not into anything that is flashy looking. I even sent pictures of a representative cue to show what I was looking for. The green veneers on the cue I received are possibly the fugliest color I have ever seen. They almost glow in the dark. The kingwood has no green character to it. There is nothing complimentary about the veneers and the point wood. I have owned the cue for 3 years now and I still haven’t gotten to like the looks of it. I ordered the cue because I had too many problems with my Szamboti drawing attention in pool rooms. Fortunately, nobody messes with this cue.
There are a few cuemakers from whom I would like to order a cue. Unfortunately, I cannot get any of them to build one for me. For the past 10 years or so, it was frustrating to see how many cues a few people can get from those cuemakers and I could not get one.
