Does anyone remember the Driller. Not sure where he was from, but saw him around
Dallas quite a bit in the 80's. He was a real character, he said he was exposed to
Agent Orange while in the service and it was causing him all kinds of problems. He
played quite a few of the tournaments in Dallas, Austin, etc. and stayed in action.I
liked him and was wondering if anyone knew what became of him.

I remember him from Rusty's in Dallas he was a real character i always thought he was from Oklahoma somewhere but not sure.

The only "Driller" that I have known and played once in a tournament, was from Oklahoma. His name was Gary Drennen?. Good player and saw him gamble at Shooters in Olathe against Gary Serville years ago.

His name is Gary Drennan. He still lives in Okcity. Goes in JamaicaJoes fairly often. He has a FB page if you want to throw him a shout. And yes, he was and still is a character.

Is Serville still playing? Used to be a pretty sporty one-hole player.

Gary Drennan was very good player in 80s, used to win a lot of cash from John Baldorph back then in Texas giving up good weight.

Sadly most of our Vietnam Vets are not doing as well these days. Good to hear your friend is still playing pool at Jamaica Joes in OK City. I have played there a few times. I played pool in Austin in the 80s. That was a mecca for billiards at that time. Erics billiards on Airport was the place to be. Now today it is Skinny Bobs. They have several pros playing out of there weekly.

Kind Regards,

he used to spot me 8 to 6 and the break
we played several times

9 ball was his game
rustys on north west hwy

seems like he gave me a button that said
i got drilled by the driller

got the buttons from a refugee from the 60s named button

i bought about 20 buttons that said"nit", i would give them away too

the 89s were a different time for pool

for me the best of times were the 60's & 70's...before cellphones esp. with cameras

if inclined you screwed your pole together and took your chances, it was all good as i usually fired toothpicks at lumberyards

there was also something cool about losing to a dude to find out later you got beat by Steve Cook, Wade Crane, Craig Stevens, etc.

sure am glade i went to work:)

MERRY CHRISTMAS, a
