The Earl Strickland story

I love Earl at the table. I think he was and sometimes still is the best pool player in the world.

I do believe that his competitiveness spikes his mental illness that is often talked about. He may also suffer from hypoglycemia too. Diabetics can have severe mood swings (I know first hand, why I am living a Keto lifestyle now) from the body chemistry there.

So mixing being someone with all the talent, drive, desire, skill and competitiveness that Earl has, add a touch of dysphoria of where he is in life vs where he thinks he is, a dash of mental illness and dietary issues. Well this might be why. Or he his a rea D-Bag.

Still the same I don't envy him and his life (only his skill). He has very little ($$$) in his life. Is he a house pro anywhere, anymore???

I think he is still the house pro at Steinway in Queens NY.

Yeah, but it sadly occurs to me that if Steinway should be sold or go out of business (not altogether unlikely for a pool hall these days) he would effectively be homeless. I'm not aware of any other life skills he has ever had.

Inner demons aside, it's just hard to believe that someone with his level of genius in any sport could find himself in such a predicament.

It's called mental illness and by its nature is beyond the person's control.

That's a far too easy way out of everything.
One CAN learn methods to control oneself, and one has to practise.

There is also (mild!) medication to help on certain deficencies, or the hard stuff if you prefer that.

I will continue to "bash" Strickland until I can see him losing with a generous smile, actually being happy about a great match and not just caring about himself.

BTW, he might have low current income but he's supposed to have good property bought when we was still earning quite a lot.
And - did he really think all of this was going on like in the 80s, 90s?

He just should start proper teaching, young and old, for proper hourly rates.
Or develop a new skill.

That's a nice ridicule from the commentators ("he's going to show up in a diving suit...")

Cheers.

He left NYC for Philly. Can be found at Fusco's these days.

I was there. Earl acted like a COMPLETE jackoff. Anybody but SVB would have knocked his ass out. Supreme class vs. ZERO class. Used to like Earl until this butt-hurt circus act.

They also didn't like Pancho Gonzales in pro tennis Tennis, he also morphed into another person, during match play.

I've know em since the late 79 when he visited my pool room, Paramount Billiards on Atlantic Blvd. in Long Beach CA. He came in with Monroe Brock and another man. One was the muscle another the steer man. He was an amazing ''straight swinging'' pool player, never saw anyone play like that since. We played 4 sets (7 hrs) roll out races to 11 on 9' dirty gold crowns in a room that had swamp coolers, not a/c. Brunswick Centennial ball sets with the blue dot cue ball.
I was also at CJ's when he ran the 10 pack+1 on Nick Mannino for the Mil.
