Once upon a time, there was a place on the north side of Chicago that bad boys called home . . . Money referred to as fins, sawbucks, doubles and g-notes. And then there were the nicknames--Sugar Shack, Bugs, Cornbread Red. You couldn't wait to have your own.

One of the best pool reads I have ever experienced right here ---> The Epitome of Cool. [Retrieved 11/16/2015]

Billiards Digest strikes gold once again with this article. Freddy the Beard would be so very proud too!

Thanks, Jam
I grew up and started playing during the same time. In Dallas there was The Cotton
Bowling Palace that was open 24 hours a day. You had to be 18 to get in the pool
area, I was like 15 and looked about 12. There were so many people in the pool room
I could sneak in and stay for hours before before I was discovered. I became good friends
with Alf Taylor, Billy Stroud and others so they put in word for me and they let me slide.
And boy did we think we were cool.wearing alligator shoes a junior in high school, pulling
out a hundred to pay your school 20 cent late book library fine. " No change ?, Oh I'm
sorry that the smallest I have". I guess the young players of today will have great stories
and memories of their young playing days too, but it will be awful hard to top the 60's and
70's.

Kat, the Beard's daughter, literally knocked this one out of the park. She should be on the BD staff, and right quick

Thank you Jam

for a great read about a time and place and people that shall not pass this way again.
