I've Made My Decision

For patriotic reason, I like Peach to in. But I will not bet against Gomez.

It has been difficult to make up my mind as to who I will be pulling for in the finals of tonight's World Pool Championship.

I like Roberto Gomez's youth, talent and his Filipino style Blitzkrieg play.

On the other hand, Peach showed me what it takes to be a champion last night. Peach comes from the mother country and while there will always be that bond that exists between two countries that share similar ideals and history, the propinquity of that relationship is not enough to make me pull for one player over the other. (If it was a real war, there wouldn't be any question about who I would side with). Let's hope we are getting out of the real war business for good.

So I've made up my mind and I will be pulling for:

MAY THE BEST PLAYER WIN :D :D :D

I think Superman is in his 30's..... I mean thats not really youth is it?

Also I looked last night at the stan james thing, and Peach is a favorite... How is that possible? I havent missed any of the tv mathes, and i don't get how Gomez is an underdogg

I am not really sure about his age because I keep on reading conflicting info about it. Some say he is 32. Others 28 or 29.

I think he is the underdog because Daryl Peach is the more seasoned player with more experience. Also, they said the tv tables were switched so superman's soft breaks will not work this time.

Here's a link that says his birthday is October 5, 1978. That is also the date I had for him also from another source.

Here is a comparison of their performance so far in this tournament. Gomez has won 15 straight games since the qualifiers. Just winning the qualifiers alone is already like winning a separate tournament. There were around 90 players who participated includiing dozens of TPE and other PHI players. Based on the stats below, the Superman has performed better than Peach. Since the round of 64, he has not given any opponent more than 4 games while Peach had to struggle and almost got defeated in some of his matches. And to those who are saying that Gomez'just got lucky', that might be true on a couple of games but to beat outstanding players like Alex Lely, FP Chao and Neils Feijen (2 times), Kuo (runner up to 2005 WPC Champ Wu) and Karl Boyes in convincing fashion just proves he is the real thing and thus deserves to win.

GOMEZ (PHI): Qualified from group 16
Match Summary:
L128:
vs Feijen NED 9-6
vs Lilly IND 9-4

L64: vs Lely NED 10-1
L32: vs Chao TPE 10-2
L16: vs Feijin NED 11-0
L08: vs Kuo TPE 11-4
L04: vs Boyes ENG 11-4

Total games - 92
games won - 71, games lost - 21

PEACH (ENG): Qualified from group 16
Match Summary:
L128:
vs Erculj SLO 1-9 (lost)
vs Luat PHI 9-3
vs Lilly IND 9-5

L64: vs Alcano PHI 10-6
L32: vs Lee KF TPE 10-7
L16: vs Stolka GER 11-5
L08: vs Bustamante PHI 11-10
L04: vs Foldes HUN 11-4

Total games - 116
games won - 72, games lost - 44

This is for discussion and following of the Final match of the WPC. Who do you think will take it?

LOL....Well, when I voted for Darryl Peach, I was vote #8 for him and Gomez was way out in front in the voting. Now that Peach is out in front 8-3, I notice that there are many more votes for Peach.

The fact that you left the voting open until 11:29a.m. on 11/12 (Monday)may have something to do with that. :)

Some AZBers May Vote For President In December 2008 (and I'll count the Votes)

LOL... I see that five more AZBers voted for Peach AFTER he'd won... :)
And I'll bet that they struggled with that decision. :)

( and a couple more voted for Gomez after he lost...... Oy-Vey ! )

Stan James is a bookmaker not a pool forecaster. The only thing that concerns a bookmaker is the money they will rake in and shell out. More money is being placed on Peach than Gomez. It's that simple. That is what betting favourite means. It could be your Auntie Flo for all Stan James cares.
