The future of pool part Viiiixhiiibgsj

I'm fairly new to this forum and I'm also a rather new bar/pool hall owner that is also a long time player.........

I've put hours upon hours of thought into what can improve and grow this game. ...and I've come to one conclusion. ... it's still on the same field.

I know I'm not going to get rich anytime soon trying to promote the game in almost any state but I do believe that the game of pool has a certain mystique than draws people to it.

.... so where does the billiards industry fall in to place and where do we go from here?

If and when the best of the best will start to embrace battling out matches on the same tables as the masses play on regularly in the same kinds of places the masses play in or at the very least the same tables that are regularly accessible the sport will never grow beyond its current state.

I agree that across the nation there is no "standard equipment" reachable in the pool hall/bar industry... I mean it would be nice to see all Blue Label Diamonds (7,9 or 10 footers) or all GC IV or whatever...played on 860 and an industry standard rubber rail system... but that can't happen in todays economic environment. The top 10-20% of the best equipment offered in todays pool halls can be played at a very 'user friendly' competitive pace if the correct game format is used. IMO

Its not necessarily all about the differences in equipment but more about the Structure of the Games being offered that is killing the Sport faster. ie 9 ball *(Texas Express TVpool) is such a joke -a gaff at best and rewards 'bad pool behavior' in so many ways players had to create a 10 ball game with cleaned up rules just to separate/differentiate proper etiquette. 8 ball 'at the professional level' can be a good but again 'amature rules' muddy the water for the masses. Bank Games and One Pocket all have their special interests are fairer by design. Stop supporting BAD pool games.

If you really want to 'help pool' then Support a game that promotes equality on EVERY Rack and engages players and rewards them for the practice necessary to get better. Make a difference in pool... help us help each other. This is what Joe Tucker has done with American Rotation. If you're not familiar with this game, the links below will get you update. 'The game was introduced to help make Americans more competitive'. This games' format can appeal to a larger group of players looking to improve the sport and bring in healthy new interest. Is it 'the answer' to pool's torrid history? No. But it is a HUGE step forward a part of the solution pool NEEDs going forward.

American Rotation is a fresh take on a traditional game, created by Joe Tucker. The rules are simple. Players from all levels see it benefiting their other games as well. yes it also can be handicapped very efficiently so everyone can engage at getting better at their own game instead of simply admiring the 'job challenged' pool specialist knock each other down.

American Rotation the only game offered today that can neutralize the differences in equipment across the country (at least the top 20% of the better equipment) because, like a Golf tee shot everyone gets the same operatunity at the table with an alternating break format.

Joe also says: "An added bonus of American Rotation is that players appear to get along better with each other. They are focused more on the table and their opportunities, and are spending less time worried about the luck of the break and the luck of their opponent’s misses, which are now received with a smile and “Shoot again”.

If you're serious about "helping pool" then let’s get POOL/Pocket Billiards moving back in the right direction.... existing leagues ('pyramid systems') that encourages a player (or a team) to remain below your 'true player potential' is NOT good for our pool community. We must start to Think bigger.

Think in terms of 'the Future of Pool' ...Think personal 'value systems' and 'sportsman like conduct' for our great sport. Pool needs supportive learning structure as well if we are going to get the younger generation into our pool rooms (away from TV’s and computer abuse) to have this sport in the future. Introducing corrective behavior norms and proper social/professional etiquette is a must if pool is going to recover and have a future here. There is NO MONEYS being made by the organizers of American Rotation (or the ABCPL that sanctions it)… The American Rotation is PLAYER FUNDED and SUPPORTED as all moneys are distributed back to the player participants... Your participation in this American Rotation event series is all about your positive contribution, attitude and dedication to bettering our sport. Its sole purpose for its existence is to try to help pool get back on its feet in the right direction in America.

Let’s collectively give players (new and experienced) an incentive to get better (play more/ and practice better pool). Also it will give the pool hall owners the best exposure to a better, higher quality positive customer base experience. ABCPL does all of this with this American Rotation format.

Please Support QUALITY POOL in every possible way...and as often you can.

Standardized equipment would be good, but that's not the problem. Lots of sports have non-standardized equipment. In golf, every course is different, and your average local course is a lot easier than what pros play. Baseball stadiums are different sizes. Tennis is played on different surfaces.

The biggest problem is that there is no real tradition of pro pool, and not much prestige. This is hard to overcome, it's a catch-22. There's no prestige because people don't care about pro pool, and one reason they don't care is that there's no prestige.

The other problem is that the popular games (9/10-ball, 8-ball, 1-pocket) are not too exciting to watch if you're not an avid pool player yourself. I think American Rotation has the best chance for the future in this regard.

And then there are the organizational/leadership problems with the governing bodies of pool. In order to have any fan interest there needs to be a pro tour and there isn't one.

To start I'll say WOW and Thank you. This kind of support is more than I could hope for but pretty much what I've been begging for lol again, Thank you.

Our format may not solve all of pool's woes today but I know we'll be in a better place once we have 500-600 of our best pool lovers and 50-60 of our proactive club owners united.

We could TALK forever about pool problems and what could or should be done but we have a chance right now to take a step forward and it just takes 1 pool table and 10 local players at a time to take that step. Watch a match, play some and see if you too can form your own local group of 10.
