The Gambling Process

How come not a single person linked the best pool instructional video on gambling of all time? It clearly explains everything.

This is a comedy show… as if it was a bank heist. This is entertainment not pool/gambling//hustling.🤣👍

I love that it is played straight, you never are let in if it's a put on or not. If you watch you will also see some famous faces in the card game.

I watched the whole thing once waiting for Jimmy to admit it was a gag. You are left wondering why Jimmy made the video. A lot of work just for fun. Did he think some would take it seriously? Was that the purpose? It seems like too much work to be directed at those that know better. The video remains a mystery. I would think the long range plan was to make a buck, but how?

Going from memory but I think there was a discussion on this some time back. I’m not going searching for it, but I recall they had plans to do a video while at that event in Aspen. Early days of VHS. What we might call content creation now. Sounded disorganized and no script prepared. Jimmy was left to his own devices/ improv. But they got something on tape and who can complain about the Mataya/Medina matchup. 😁

Back when I was shooting pool a lot, gambling was super common even at the local spots. Most games I saw would have someone holding the cash for both players, just to keep things fair and prevent any walkouts. For bigger matches, there was almost always talk and negotiation about the amount, sometimes with backers putting up the money, just like some people mentioned. I only played for small bets, but I saw a couple high-stakes games go sideways when someone didn’t want to pay up, they usually didn’t get to play again at that room if that happened. If anyone’s curious about casino-style gambling, you can check out the latest offers with a gamblezen promo code, since these promos sometimes unlock extra value, especially for folks who like exploring new places to play.

basically i was called nothing but a thief from frosty because i try to get an edge when i gamble and wont take an even gamble. which many times i do. but not knowingly at pool. he wasnt the first.

my fault for adding any real info about anything on forums as too many assholes ruin it for me.
and sad for forums as they allow personal attacks to posts not personally directed toward anyone in particular.
We would’ve been good road partners….anybody who goes around making fair games is guaranteed to go bust.
I play by the rules of poker….I try to make a winning hand look like a losing one.
I would take a rough proposition if the money difference was right though.

Buy a dog

I did paint my sneaky white, thought that might help! With my wrap around Blues Brothers shades indoors and the white cane I thought I was in there!

After the first few years I just counted on the percentages and odds. I didn't want any talk of anything but play pool and let the chips fall where they may. When people cried for a spot when I walked in the door I just asked if there was a pool hall anywhere around!

One advantage, I wasn't but about seventy-five miles from the Heart of Acadiana, Cajun country. All Cajuns would gamble, some had money. It was only when I got restless and went scouting for new country that I had to work pretty hard.

BackerS nothin, that was our one and only Don Purdy that booked that winner.

I saw him doing yard work a couple months ago and pulled the bicycle over to say hi.
I remember going over to Don's house when I lived near him around 21 years ago. What a character and neat guy. He purchased a Justis case that said US OPEN CHAMPION STAKEHORSE. He ponied up, and had a nice win.

Players always had backers and orthopedic surgeons with them cause every time they won they got their thumbs broken . It was so bad in some states that you couldn’t even get thumb insurance

Cowboy, many here deride you over your posts, but this post I quoted here is an accurate glimpse of how things were in many places in the past. In the case of the post I quoted here from Maha especially, Cowboys post describes you sir. You weren’t a gambler, you were a thief, what many would call a lock artist, that some others would call a nit. One that won’t take an even game, or offer one, EVER. While you think that makes you a “savvy gambler”, the truth is that what you were doing is stealing, not gambling, just for the record.
I've seen many champions giving away massive weight to folks that still can't win.

They take the money and run............

A fair game?

Ain't nothin fair in this world.............
