The good, bad,& ugly....

I recently competed in two week end double elimination "Open" tournaments in Anchorage with a field of about 45 players each time. I wish I could say I fought the good fight, but I got my butt beat down early by better shooting players.

The first was 9 Ball race to 9 on winner side and race to 7 on looser side. The second week end was 8 Ball race to 6 on winner side and 5 on looser side with last six matches on looser side a race to 6 again.

The tables were 9' Diamonds with a few playing early rounds on 7' Diamonds. Good tables with good 860 HR Tournament Blue cloth and good Arimath balls. Nice long races for amateurs with good equipment. I felt fortunate as I keep hearing from my buddy in Michigan about brutal short bar box races in most of their amateur tournaments.

I won my first match in each one easily thanks to a lucky draw. Had my chances in some of the other matches and missed the shots. I just could not get it together.

I am going to work on my stroke as I miss way to many long straight in shots when I try to use medium or faster speed on the shots, especially when applying draw.

All in all the tournament was well run and attended by a bunch of players who showed pretty good sportsmanship. Some one must of complained to the authorities as there was no Calcutta on the 8 Ball, it may be a thing of the past.

I had fun and will try again in about 7 months.

Sounds like you took it all well. Think about it...those cream of the crop players need we who struggle. Without us to beat, where would they be? ;)

Glad you had fun..and keep stroking!

It's not that you took a beatdown as you put it. It's all in how you recover. Work on your shortcomings & keep going back. Fortune favors the bold. Good luck.

Oh ya!

I will be back. I will be 66 next time and I am realistic about my playing. I'm not playing against a bunch of pro players though and I did have some opportunities to win. Some of the guys who finished late in the tournament were guys I beat last year.

Time for an epic come back ! LOL

Damn I miss those tournaments. The last 4 opens that I played up there, were on those Diamonds (2 Rondy and 2 states). I took 5/6 each time, I told myself I would win one before I left, and never did. :frown:

Might have to put in some serious table time and come back up in October or next February....... ;)
