Just watched the Hustler movie again. I so enjoyed that movie. Does anyone know what cue Newman shot with ?
I have played 8 ball and nine ball all my life,3 ball the last few years. I've just learned since joining here there are other games ! ! lol..
What game were they playing where you can shoot balls out of rotation for example, the 5 then the 15... And how do you win?

Both Newman and Gleason use Rambow cues,
Herman said they were made on a special rush order
for the filming

They were playing 14.1 Continuous (aka straight pool). This game is call pocket where you can shoot any ball at any time. Each ball is worth a point and you play to a pre-determined point value. Fouls are -1 point, except on the initial break where it's -2, and the last ball, and cueball, of each rack is left on the table with the remaining 14 racked.

Yeah, they were playing 14.1, but they slam every ball, and they put in a bunch of stupid shots. Newman calls a striped ball sitting on the foot spot, but makes it by banking a ball into it. No purpose. I turned it off. It's a depressing movie, anyway.

What's wrong with such a fantastic shot? Just because it may have been a fluke but went in?

Haven't you ever tried such a shot before, and had it pot? I sure have!!:D Did it make my day? You betcha! Heck, the number of super low-percentage shots that have gone down as planned are great to remember.

Can you still make the cue ball do the jitter bug?

Dude.....dude!.....DUDE!:D my wife said the same thing about it being depressing and all, but that's whole idea. TCOM was more upbeat, but The Hustler was meant to put you in a mood, and make you think about the characters lives.

I hear you about the stupid shots, but again you have to think like you never played the game, so it would impress the masses. We all know perfect 14.1 looks like the easiest thing in the world. The beauty is to make it seem so simple.......
