The Taiwanese players are hardly sponsored by the government. There are some incentives when they win world titles, but not much other than that. Why do you think Wu Chia Ching plays for China now?
Truth! The Taiwanese are NOT sponsored by their government.

I think demographics have a bit to do with Taiwanese success, also.Exactly right. In fact, their society is very much like ours (in the populated cities).
For some reason, the popular theory why Taiwanese/Chinese players are a world beater factory is that they are trained from childhood and groomed their whole life by the Government. This is not even remotely correct. In Taiwan, it is a non communist government t, basically set up like the US government. It's a capitalist, free society.
The kids go to schools that are very similar to schools in the US; grade school, high school, etc. In fact, their school dy is several hours longer than ours. There isn't very much after school free time, factoring having to do homework. In the larger cities, like Taipei, the is Pool in the schools. Pool in school is an elective, kinda like playing baseball or football. Other than that, you have to practice Pool on your own or find a Pool coach or become a poolroom junky.
So, at the end of the day, the Pool opportunities in Taiwan really aren't much different than ours. I'm gonna catch sh1t for this, but I feel like the Taiwanese just out work us, in Pool. That's the only major advantage i can see.

Like Britain, South Korea, and the Philippines, the players are closer to each other and
interact more.
In North America, the talent is much more spread out, thousands of mile separating many.
AFAIK, the Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) government does not pay their pool players. The Taiwanese players join teams (Taiwan Typhoon, for example) and the teams raise money through sponsorships and endorsements. They travel here as a team, train as a team, room together and support each other during competition. They are extremely disciplined in their approach to pool and I believe it's their mental game that makes them the best. They rarely miss a shot, and almost never make mental errors.
