The Laser Rack: __Official Rack for Allen Hopkins $1M 9-Ball Shootout

Hi Steve-- Very good question. It depends on how rough, I suppose. I've done some preliminary drop-tests at 2', 4', and 7' onto wood flooring and the lasers stayed aligned.

I will make it a point to perform more of a destructive test to see at what point do the lasers become misaligned (if at all). --Abe

Does your rack incorporate any ability for adjustment of the lasers? If not I'd suggest this would be necessary for long-term use in Pool halls. Withouth having seen your design the normal way to do small, precise adjustments on fox optical devices would be through small set screws.

I'm in Orange County, CA myself and have a table at home if you need another beta tester for your rack. I also have small children with no regard for the value of other peoples property that I can let lose on it to simulate a true pool hall environment ;-)

Dave-- Thank you for testing out the rack and offering your review. As for the calibration, it is a one-time step during assembly on our part. The user will not need to perform any calibrations. If the lasers ever become out of alignment during "normal" use, we will replace the unit under warranty. To test out you should be able to notice an out-of-alignment condition if one or more of the lasers become out of position. The rack position will be noticeably off.

The only thing serviceable would be battery replacement (AAA).

Thank you again!

AuntyDan-- Periodic calibration should not be necessary. If it becomes a problem, we will definitely address it. I'll be in touch if I need another tester. I've got 4 other folks testing the rack as we speak. Thanks for offering.

Regards,
Abe

Hi Abe glad to see that your rack is getting some acknowledgement.
I know you worked hard on the developement and did it on your own dime.

Congratulations on the hook up with Alan Hopkins and with Danny K. As you know I have seen the rack and like the accuracy concept VERY MUCH. I have two concerns: 1) that I may no longer be the only one capable of giving the perfect rack- straight and tighter than a frog's azz and 2) that you may underestimate the value of AuntyDan's generous offer to channel his kids' destructive nature toward the product testing of your rack. Maybe this is a non issue-maybe you have kids yourself.

Best of luck with your venture.

Jeff-- Thank you. It has been challenging so far and it's still very early in the game. I'm learning as I go along, especially the business aspect. :yikes: Check your PMs... I replied.

Bill-- Thank you too! Your concerns are valid. With regards to #1, no hard feelings I hope. :) And #2, I am definitely not not underestimating the value of AuntyDan's offer. :) I do have kids myself... 2 boys... 12-yr old and a 20-month old and another boy on the way. :happydance:

That brings to mind another question. Can rough treatment of the rack cause the lasers to become misaligned?

It will be tested in my review very soon. It will be dropped from the table distance (where you would miss the hook under the table) or from standing distance (where you would stand up and accidently drop it) and then I'm going to test to see if the lasers moved any.

So far its been great, as Mr. Wilson said its a very sturdy rack and the lasers are in a good spot in the rack (you might can touch the top laser, if you pushed your finger in there hard enough). It would take alot to break this bad boy IMO.
