Call me a purist but I don't think these templates are good for straight pool. Rack variability is part of the game.

The template rack does make a 9 ball break available, knowing it and hitting it are not one and the same.
My victory over John Schmidt in the race to 2 nine ball, on a 7 foot Diamond. I made the 9 on the break the first rack! He gave me The Look as he racked again. He wasn't sure if I knew the break or had just shit it in.
3 ball with a template rack is my favorite practice session. The precision of the strike is more important than the Power. (That comes from Cole).

Set whitey 4 inches off center and hit it dead square so that whitey pops 6 inches back and sits.

I don't think they are good for any pool game. I was an early adopter of them but I'd rather play RYO. They make it so anyone's grandma could make the wing ball.

Please excuse my flashback moment of my 4 hrs B-52 ride in a practice low level bomb run over the grand canyon. The Delta formation (less the lone pace car leader and plus 2 more on the wings.). 350 knots at 800 ft off the deck. Ground turbulent ride!!!@
Okay, what's to explain?
I use them as a break pad to help preserve the table.
I use them as targets for position practice.
3 ball break practice is Huge in my greatest success on the bar box 9 ball play. The first shot is the critical #1.
Ooops! My absurdly clumsy first attemt..

Oh well now the Kick 'em in practice or start with just run them out for a par 4.
3 ball practice is my Sunday Fun day favorite.

Left vs Right practice has Lefty nailing the break.

The cue is on the line of the shot. The intention was for the white to come straight back 6 to 12 inches. Nothing went on a proven make all 3 method. still fun practice.

The ink will transfer to the cloth and cueball. So when my break spot starts to show wear the strategic placement of the break pad can change the appearance.
