I know people make a big fuss over this shot. Honestly, I'm not terribly fond of it. He almost falls short on position and I have a real hard time believing this was his best option.

Yeah, this is a much better shot. I see shots like this attempted from time to time in tournaments but I would say every other player I've ever seen take a shot like this considers every option twice before shooting it this way. It's just so hard to judge and too many factors to consider BUT if you're out of options and you have a near-hanging low-ball, it's a great way to go, if you remember to think of it.
