The Medina Tournament

So after a few snags (couple of items that were mailed haven't shown up yet) we kicked off the tournament yesterday morning at 11 am. We had a full 32 bracket filled and a ton of spectators. A lot of pool was played, a lot of stories told and when Danny's family brought him in for a brief amount of time there were even some tears shed. Danny was in a wheelchair, with oxygen, and barely able to whisper what he wanted to say but he was happy to see the people that came out and you could see the shine in his eyes as he watched the players shoot. The raffle tickets flew like snow and a second raffle was started for a very large poster that had a Danny Medina motto printed on it and his signature and year written on it. We ultimately ended up raising over $2000 dollars for his family! His sisters came down to watch, he had some nieces and nephews there and it was an all around good time.

Thank you so much to all that helped and donated. Thank you most to Melissa Little and Mark Haddad, Jimmy Vincze, Ashley Williamson without you guys I don't think we would have been able to throw this all together so quickly. And a huge thank you to Felt staff (Emily, Audra and Damon) for kicking ass on keeping everyone full of food and drinks!

We, of course, need more help as funerals are expensive and as Danny has not left us he still needs ongoing care. If you would like to donate we are leaving the website up www.danny-medina.com you can go and see pictures, watch videos and his last interview with Ray.

Thank you for all your hard work running the tourney and raffle, Brandie. And Melissa & Mark, too. it was a truly touching day.

You guys don't have to thank me, I did it cuz it was something that needed to be done. There are players I love and respect and players that I just wanna smack in the head when I see them but I would do it for anyone that meant something to the game of pool. I have a special love for Danny, he was my last teacher. He has been giving me lessons for free for the past few months every time he felt well enough to come down to the pool hall and I have been hearing his stories since I was 12. So this tournament was extra special to me and extra hard for me at the same time. You just don't want to say goodbye to someone that means that much to you and to the game and has shaped how to you see the game.
