The Mosconi Cup is Not About ...

Nice post but I'm a bit confused as to what our disagreement is.

B game vs A game.

Each team came with their BEST GAME based upon the event and table conditions and the particular type of game played.

(Now if you are saying that BEST GAME = B Game, then we are on the same page on everything. Lol)

Also, if you are saying that 9 ball is a B game vs say one pocket being an A game, then we are again on the same page. :)

Mark needs to just look on here to find next years team. AZ has become like an old Rusty Warren record (Knockers Up) Keith,s stroke was a little different try teaching Efrens or Daz,s stroke. You KNOCKERS need to study Dan Gables mindset on competition .Sorry your like a bigmouth in a bar that when someone is holding them they want to kick your ass .When let go they look like a deer in the headlights.Go team U.S.A.

So you're saying that repeatable fundamentals play no part in having a consistent pool game that holds up under pressure? I just want to make sure we're all understanding you correctly.

I have a different take on what brings out a b game at that level. That is where that mental toughness that I think Mark is working to instill more of comes in.

Joey - I think we are saying a similar thing just in a different way.
Very few players can actually play their best game in an environment like the Mosconi Cup just because it's so rare that they get to experience this atmosphere. Now if this sort of atmosphere became the norm many players would learn to thrive under the lights of the Mosconi Cup.

I love the Mosconi Cup and I hate when it comes to an end every year. Likewise, it looks like it's time to say goodbye to this thread. Thanks to everyone who chimed in.

Now back to your regularly scheduled topics - tips, chalk, and low deflection shafts.

So what kind of equipment do you play with?

As a europe of course im happy about the win.
but i have to say something, i feel like im the only one feeling like that.

i think it was one of the lower quality mosconi cup, dont get me wrong, there where some really crazy shots for highlights, of course, but in all, so many easy errors, i felt really bad for pool.
i often thought if now someboy is watching who is not related to pool must think like, are this really pros, why are they missing so much balls??

one reason for that is of course the atmosphere and stuff.
but i think that the break is killing the smooth action.
you can argument with that break rules a lot of safetie action is involved, but i think its destroying the game on the other side, i would love to see more nice run outs, maybe its time to change break formats to 3 breaks alternate, normal build with rack, no magic rack.

for me even as a europe fan, it was not really nice to watch this year i dont know, what do you think about it?

Thanks for chiming in yamakazi,

I love the format of the Mosconi Cup and I really like having the 9 on the spot for the break, so I think the break rules are perfect.

The only thing I would like to see changed is going back to races to 6 but I can live with races to 5 is that makes for better TV.

The Mosconi Cup made me cheer, for an actual pool match... how often does that happen. Or even yell loudly when there was a miss by USA, not a "you suck" shout, but a "oh, crap" type of thing.

Usually, watching pool I don't really "root" for one over the other unless Earls' playing, I aways root for him but I don't root against the guy he's playing (if an American player).

But MC is a lot different, even a little bit of an Olympics type thing going on.

With that being said, it would be nice if the events started on Friday night, through the weekend to build some interest in this thing. It sucks it can't get on ESPN for a few days ??
