The need for joint protectors?

From Seybert's site:

"Joint protectors will protect the only moving part on your cue... The Joint. Joint Protectors protect the pin of the cue butt from any accidental side pressure blows, keeping your cue pin straight and true so preserve the accuracy and straightness of your pool cue investment. The cue shaft protector keeps the joint end of the cue shaft from accumulating dirt, sand, and other debris that, when left unprotected, can gather in the pocket of the joint in the cue shaft. This debris can cause damage when the pin is screwed into the shaft. Sand and dirt can cause the pin and joint to grind and bind while screwing on your shaft, possibly locking the two together. Protect your most important billiard equipment, your pool cue with a set of Quality Joint Protectors."

Replacing any teeny tiny bumper with a big azz one would be money better spent, if protecting the cue is paramount.

Takes less than half a minute put them on or take them off both sides, literally. The joints are also only exposed for the brief time it takes to screw together or apart the cues. It’s not any real time lost at all IMO.

Different strokes for different folks though!

I use them, they look nice but are they necessary-meh maybe. On exhibition cues I have some caps Alton did for me which are amazing.

A good protective case is more important IMO.

I agree that a good protective case is 100000000% more important than owning a pair of joint protectors. As for being necessary, I agree with you as well. I view them similar to door locks and seat belts; not necessary strictly speaking, but if anything does happen, you would be glad you had them.

Sometimes what I do is use a jp on the shaft I’m currently using and leave them off the others so I know what shaft has the tip I want and am familiar with. I always put one on the butt.
