The Next Great Pool Story

.02 Cents

I don't consider an initial post for something Pool related to be considered spamming. As a Pool community, we should welcome people to come here, and stay around, and tell us of their new product. Other people have done it, and Tom should be treated no different.

Sure he is trying to promote his book, who wouldn't. It will stand or fall on its own merits.

Let's be a little more user friendly, and not so damn clickish.

only game players can't understand what I said

Multiple ID's --- sounds like you are drinking coffee with someone else today. Sorry to disappoint you again, but I have and have always had only one ID. Again, you live in a fantasy world. Hope you enjoy your space. :o

And let me finally get this straight - you don't care if people buy Tom's book and will actually be glad if he becomes a NY Times bestseller, you just care that he would have posted something worthwhile, in your mind and in your world, first before he tried to get people to buy his book.

You might need a snow shovel but sounds like the rest of us have been invited to a fish fry, as we watch you flop back and forth.

What I said is pretty clear to the rest of the world. As for crap stirring and trying to run the forum, I had dropped this after post #14. Over thirty posts later you were still unwilling to drop it. Also, one of us has been warned and banned for trying to run the forum. IT WASN'T ME!!

Below is my last post again since most accept spin and BS without bothering to check that you are twisting things or flat lying as it suits you. There is someone trying to turn this into a bashing thread but it isn't me. I still regard Tom's first three posts as spam. However it is Mike H approved spam and not my business as I made plan in posts 11 and 14. Those that can't remember back to page one can go back and read it and easily see who is riding a dead horse here.

Anybody through with their snow shovel yet?

I need one to shovel a lot of BS! As usual you are full of it. You and your multiple ID's hold grudges forever and are always waiting to get in a cheap shot. I don't give a tinker's dam if anybody buys Tom's book or not. Actually I'll be glad if people do, I like someone getting a return for their effort. Everybody that wants to buy a book from Tom to spite me, please do so and let him know that is the main reason you bought it. I'll check with him about how many people were willing to plunk down $18.00 just to spite me in a week or three. :D :D :D

As for the continued posting disrupting this thread, it would have disappeared pages ago without the cheap shots from you and your buddies. You are the ones providing this welcome and insight into AZB for Tom.

Tom is a great guy, give the book a read.

Most of you don't know me. I've been reading the posts on here for a couple of years now. I don't really post much, I just wanted you to know a few things. Tom has been one of the best players in this area for a long time. He really does love the game, he has more knowledge about the game than most of the current pro's. I bought a copy from him a couple of weeks ago and haven't yet had the chance to read it, but I'm looking forward to it. You should also know that he self publilshed this book. You all talk about respecting heart in this game, thats about as much heart as you can have. Talk about a gamble. That is why you should give it a read. Just my opinion.

Thanks
Jason Hutchins

Jason, Thanks for the support. I've really built up a back log and many of you are still talking about my my first few posts. I was wrong not knowing the ground rules. I've moved into a new post. Let's move on to the next chapter, I getting dizzy trying to keep up. Another new guy is where I'll be from now on.

This is really cool!

Tom starts off on the wrong foot and rubs a few wrong and ends up being a mediator of some seasoned posters! LOL

I'm really starting to like you Tom! Welcome to AZ!

Give me a break. Last time I checked, this forum is about pool. The guy wrote a book about pool. Why not start a pool-related thread on a pool-related forum about a pool-related book you wrote yourself? And who cares if it's his first post or not?

I agree with Mike. Cut the guy some slack.

Tom...welcome to the forum. I wish you success on your book.
Ditto. I cannot believe you guys jumping down Tom's throat.

Here is Tom mid-stroke at the Turning Stone in 2008

As I recall, you came back from like a 6-1 deficit against someone in your run...

Drama

Many people simply love drama. That's why they keep bringing this up after the ship has sailed.

Maybe you guys should start another thread about 1st post etiquette and how some people are wrongly characterized.

Now can we discuss the book and/or Tom please.

To answer your question, I was down twice in that tournament. I have a way of falling behind some times. I was either trailing 5-0 or 6-1 this happened in two different matches. I won them both. Parica also jumped way out in front. I never recovered. he beat me 9-1.

Tom,

Did you play at Turning Stone in the August 2006 event? I was there with my family. My daughter, who was 7 at the time, got numerous Pro's to autograph a little shirt.

You look like a fellow that I warmed up with!

Ray

Ray, I was there. Maybe we played together, I don't know. What am I doing back on the first page? I never re-posted, or at least I think I didn't.

I gotta say

I was really pumped up to see Az talking about Tom's new book. I don't know Tom all that good, but have played against him before, and seen him at a few local tournies. I think it is embaressing to see all the attacks right out of the gate at Tom. This website can be so buddy buddy at time, and I am not a fan. I hope to grab a copy of this book once I get a chance. Tom is definately a great shooter, and if I am correct he knocked out Thorsten and Korr back to back at a TS event.

Some people just refuse to see the good in things and have to keep taking jabs at our forum.

I don't care what club you go to, if you show up to sell and nothing else, you will not be greeted well.

If you join the club, give a little to it and become one of the family, you will be able to sell easily. That was the point. Tom sees that now and is becoming one if the family.

If it was never brought up, Tom may have failed in his attempt to court AZ peeps and we all would have missed out on an interesting member.

Focus on the good people! You're missing a lot if you don't.

Have you thought about releasing your book in a Kindle format?
Would love to try it out if your do.

I swear I'm gonna get some of the locals together and we're gonna have an INTERVENTION! :D

enough

I got through page 4 and had to stop reading. Tom welcome to azb and good luck with your book. I would venture to say if one of the top pool pros got on azb to promote a book about pool or even something remotely pool related this thread would look and feel different even if that person never posts here. At least there are still people out there trying to keep this game on peoples mind and maybe spark enough interest in the game that new players will pick up a cue for the first time and become lifelong players like Tom.

Everyone else here is independently wealthy with no life but AZB?

Watchez and others want to drag this on forever so I am posting something I buried when BigTruck made his efforts to calm the waters. How many have researched Tom's book as much as I have before making your posts for or against what he is doing here? As for his posts on this forum, so far they are in the three threads promoting his book. No other contributions. The follow-up posts in this thread were badgered out of him. As I have said, I'm not judging him now. I can't, nothing really to judge by except his book promotions and Mike H said not to judge him by these. However I am not going to sit here and meekly accept the hounds nipping at my heels.

(included text written earlier)
For those that think I am such a meany here are Tom's posts:

The first two are from the night before, the same post crossposted on the Wanted/For Sale Forum and Main Forum shilling his book.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=129102

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=129102

The next day he posted his third post, the thread starter here, on the main forum. Any time anyone describes themselves are their accomplishments as great I am underwhelmed by their modesty. I have talked to Olympic gold medalists who didn't use great concerning themselves. This one garnered my first post after checking his prior posts and noting his only interest here seemed to be a daily advertisement. Not his first post as the objectors to my actions have claimed, his third advertisement with no other posts.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?p=1639625#post1639625

After reading his fourth post here, the one that was a bit snide below, I red repped him.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?p=1639827#post1639827

The red rep button is for posts that we find offensive. I found this post and his entire pattern of posting offensive. I am also aware that the red rep we give is only one-half the value of the green rep we give so if I turned out to be mistaken I could green rep him one time and not only take away the red rep but give him that much value in green rep.

Anybody that cares to check will see that I don't jump on posters for being newcomers and often welcome newcomers. I don't welcome spammers and that is what Tom showed every intention of being. I have absolutely no apologies for my actions at this time. I see multiple questions asked of Tom concerning pool and no answers. Also to set the record straight, I have read every review offered of Tom's book. It seems to be about love and family with pool as the background. That doesn't make it a pool book. Something mentioned about vice too and the whole storyline resting on a hustle. Wonder where the vice and hustle takes place?

You do have a life outside of this forum, yes?

Anytime I see someone researching threads and pasting quotes and such, I would think with the time it takes to do that, that it would be a fairly important point their trying to make.

Thanks for the laugh though.....after all, were talking about a established gentleman in the pool world, he wrote a pool book and he posted in a pool forum.

That's all a bunch of crap for those of you that think someone has to come in here and post stories first, before selling something pool related.

This is not some elitist forum, nor one a person has to sleep with the 20 highest posters to join.

It's just a pool forum, the best damn pool forum on the Net, and it's filled with many hard-core pool junkies.

So chill out and give up on trying to make a point. You don't have one in this case.

IMHO

If your book is really good, go to some big tournaments and give out some free copies ... <snip>
Just as an fwi, Tom was indeed giving away draft copies at the Turning Stone last summer, and most likely at other tournaments since then... He's a good guy, just unfamiliar with the shark-infested waters of internet forums :)
