I think I'm on to something here. For the last few years I've been frustrated why I can't make long straight shots like I could when I was younger and playing every day. Reading Mark Wilson's book got me thinking about the perfect stroke. I think when we're young and all the body parts are well oiled, no aches and pains, and the eyes are good, you can get away with little things in your stroke on the fly, so to speak. As you get older you are not as loose. Myself, I always feel stiff no matter how long I play.

I videoed my stroke for a few racks before I started reading Mark's book. I was amazed at how out of line I had got in a few months. Since I've read the first 5 chapters about 6 times and practiced it all exactly how the book says, I find I'm starting to make a much bigger % of the long straight ins now. I really think as we get older that are strokes have to be just about perfect than they were when we were younger and more limber. I might be wrong, but it has been working great for me, and getting a little better each day. Big thanks to Mark Wilson for this down to earth no gimmick book. Johnnyt

I was thinking about this issue just yesterday when doing my drills including the long straight-ins......my stroke is a little shaky or not as smooth as many years ago and was wondering how to fix it. gosh it sucks getting old! I appreciate your posting this and will start my search for his book.

The good news you just realize that your stroke was off, keep at it, shorten your backward swing.

It seems like I've been starting all over again every few months for the last 20 years or so. The good thing is I always comeback a little better than before. I tried to quit the darn game, but I had way less trouble when I quit cigarettes and booze. I was a cranky old SOB. Johnnyt
