The One Pocket Ghost

I've been playing on my table more than I have in years and have been practicing my 1P a lot. I came up with a practice game to motivate my practice.

Playing against the "1P Ghost"

1. Break with any standard break for 1P and make an honest effort to make a good break.
2. Take ball in hand and run balls into the pocket that you broke to.
3. Depending on your skill level, to win the game you must pocket a set number of balls for your level. I have been playing to get 5 balls to win the game and it is not as easy as it sounds.
4. Race to 7.

You get a lot of practice on your break, and it really improves your "working" the table. Sounds simple, but all it takes is a numb nuts shot or roll here or there and the 5 is hard to maintain. A lot of 3's amd 4's. I've only been doing this for a couple of days and I had my first two 8 and outs today. My table has 4 1/8 inch pockets so that adds to the difficulty, along with getting used to a Rogue shaft.

If you have a table just try this going to 3 or 4 a couple of games and see how you do. Then set a "target" number of balls to push yourself in a race to 7.

Hope ya'll enjoy!

never mind I didn't see ball in hand, I was going to say if you play from where the cueball lies 5 is a monster. 5 is still pretty good a lot better than average'

I've been doing the same thing but using a ten ball rack and no ball in hand after the break. It's actually not that difficult to get position on the first ball. Makes it a little more open than the full rack.
