The ONLY place on the table you don't concede when giving up BIH

it must sit slightly inside towards the point, else jinhu would have shot it top right. weird i don't remember that situation because that was a memorable final

Think you are also playing your opponent here too. Doubt Marc would have done that against Shane, Filler, Gorst, etc. The safe is too easy with 9 and the bottom rail and having ball in hand. It wouldnt have been the strongest safe but the return safe would be considerably more difficult. Even if he just bunted the ball to the bottom rail and didnt get the hook with the 9ball.

Im assuming 7 passed the side pocket given the way Matt shot it, but I also have no idea of Matt's playing ability. I more prefer with ball in hand playing it to the opposite corner if I have to play something offensive and just rolling up or off the point.

Looks like it was from the Spanish Open which was a WNT event so the 3 foul rule would have been in effect, but 3 fouls from here is pretty tough even with the first one given to you.

Depending on where it is on the point those are the type that you slam head on into the side pocket.

Line up the cue ball straight to the middle of the pocket and hit it hard and above center, the object ball will compress the cushion nose and go in the pocket.

Edwards is a ~750 rated touring pro. I think the moment just got to him a bit. IMO, the right shot would be to skim the 7 and try to get the 9 in between. The pockets at the 2023 Spanish Open were famously stingy and players were passing up long open shots like this, so even if you somehow left the long shot into the corner, it's still not a guaranteed sell out.

Looked like Marc foreign guy tried to move the 7, missed, and went plan B.
Edwards appeared to try a titty or outright multi rail safety and blew it. The 7 was otherwise clear.

Cross side was the shot to take.

Good shot, but if the 7 is frozen to the rail it's going to be very hard to skim it and get the cueball behind the 9 without the cueball hitting the 7 twice... plus if the 7 is frozen you have to worry about the cueball hitting another rail.

I think it's a bit easier and less error prone to shoot the 7ball to the end rail and try to roll the cueball up behind the 9ball. If you mess it up you still have the 7 on or close the the end rail with no direct shot with the exception of a long rail bank possibly.

Love Marc, great player. Always have said that this is the only spot on the table, even if it was the 8 ball playing 8 ball. Hardest shot in pool even with BIH.

How would you have played it? Not sure if they had 3 foul rule in effect.

There are 2 ways of shooting the frozen 7. First...if the 7 ball was within an 1/16 inch of the side pocket you can shoot hard straight in to the pocket edge and it will compress the cushion enough to make it in the side. Second...put the cue ball slightly in the same side pocket and with a slight cut shot shoot it in the upper right corner pocket. This will eliminate hitting the edge of the side pocket and deflecting the the 7 away from the rail and will eliminate the scratch.

Just laid it out and looked at it a bit. Occam's Razor: Put the CB in the side opening and shoot the 7 in the top right because of the shelf you can get an angle away from the rail with the CB. It's not an *easy* shot, but it's there and leaves you good on the 8.

It’s delicate, but you can hook them on the point potentially. I tried it with the OB frozen with about a quarter ball overlapping the side pocket opening. Give yourself maybe 10 degrees of angle with the cueball on the opposite side of the pocket and hit a very soft shot approximately full ball. You need the cueball to barely get the rail but if you do you get a corner hook. Try it at home and see if I’m crazy or set it up wrong.

Depending on how far up the rail that ball is, I've driven them thru the tit with extreme high to pocket that ball in the side. It has to be at least a half ball over the tit. Only way you can make it in the side. Try it.

Beat me to the punch Steve. 👍🏻
I need to start reading the comments first. That way no double up.
