The path of a cue to you

I like McDermotts so I watch for them on ebay. Two of my sticks have been won from pawn shops.
The first was a M12A that had its butt cap cracked and was obviously used a lot by who ever owned it. It felt great to get it and see it refinished.
Today I received a Green Dubliner and I am a little spooked, it seems new. The joint face is perfectly clean as are the shaft threads... spotless. The entire cue seems fresh out of the bag. What sad story would explain someones's brand new cue being sold by a pawn shop on eBay? Lost in a bigger game than he could handle and converted into cash by the winner? Makes one wonder. I always wanted a Dubliner.

I also just recently purchased two McDermott cues from a Pawn Shop. One was a D-7 in about 90% original condition and the other was an EB-1, the pawn shops must be starved for cash because I got both cues for $140 out the door.

I have no idea how these cues ended up there, but about once a month I make the rounds and buy anything decent and then refinish it for resale.

Keep looking, I know I will.

It really helps to know what you guys know:thumbup:
I missed out on a Helmstetter with 2 shafts at a local pawn shop because i didn't know what I was looking at. I think it was pretty early and asking was $220. It was fairly fancy . . .
Oh well, I'm learning

I have never seen anything good at a pawn shop in my area. Most of it is junk: sportscraft, viper, or five piece crap. I would likely buy anything that was worth something. I wish I could find something custom at a pawn shop. That would be cool.

I have bought some cues cheap from players that went broke, but that hasn't happened very often. Sometimes it's good to be around with cash.

i picked up 2 cues at a pawn shop so far. a mcdermott black widow model for 100.00 and an unknown cue " think its an import " for 40.00. i just had a feeling about that cheap cue and it turns out to be the best breaker i have ever had.

i have made a few deals with players also.

bought a meucci gambler for 200.00 and a year later traded it even for a brand new predator blak 4. that guy wanted that gambler bad lol. he only had that predator for 6 weeks, he gave me the reciept also.

bought a 5000.00 custom for 2200.00. have had several guys want this stick. best offer i have had so far is 2500.00, pick out any stick in his shop, and a new instroke case" this from a guy who owns a billiard supply store. this stick aint for sale or trade.

just made a deal tonight for another meucci gambler for 250.0 from a guy at league.

Still learning here, what can you get for a Meucci gambler??
or do you just like them?

it depends on whether it is an original or not and the condition of the cue.

the meucci factory has been based in this area a long time , consequently they have some pretty loyal customers. but then again there are people who think they are just another average production cue.

the gamblers and road agents seem to garner the most attention.

i have personaly witnessed guys turn down these offers.

1,400.00 for a meucci original gambler.
1,200.00 for another original gambler
900.00 for non- original dragon slayer
500.00 for white non- original gambler

transactions i know of

as i stated , i purchased a non-original gambler for 200.00 and now 1 for 250.00

250.00 for non-original gambler
300.00 for non-original gambler
400.00 for non-original road player
400.00 for non-original dragon slayer.
i have seen several other models go for 100.00 up to 300.00 but i dont recall what models they were.

most meucci fanatics around here " if i can call them that " will not part with an original unless you were to offer them way more than its actually worth.

the 1st gambler i bought i turned down several offers of 300.00 to 400.00 but i could not turn down a brand new 1,200.00 predator. this 1 here i plan on keeping , unless i get an offer i just cant refuse.

i forgot to answer your 2nd question. yes i like them but i like a good deal even more. i think 250.00 is a good deal for one of them.

thanx lorider, I'm just learning this cue market. back last time I was into pool, Meucci and Palmer were the new kids on the block:grin:

Long before I ever started working on cues I played with a Helmstetter that was made around 1985. I really liked that cue, dam thing hit jam up, I still think Adam / Helmstetter cues are way under rated because they were made in Japan.

Take care partner

Mike I am certainly with you, McDermott's do sell very quickly and they are relatively inexpensive. Sometimes when I am bored I still scan eBay and pick them up pretty cheap. Most need a refinish, and some need shafts straighten or replaced, but since I do the work myself it is very cost effective and I always make a decent profit.

I recently posted a method that is very effective for straightening shafts. I had bet with another member who said it could not be done, so I excepted a couple of shafts from forum members across the country. All were very happy with the results and one of them started a thread which I posted the method I use in, if you have read through that thread go back and take a look it may help you out. If you can't find it send me a PM. and I will send you a link to the thread.

Oh and by the way, currently since that thread I have had more people contact me about what it would cost, currently I have 6 others in the shop all from forum members. In addition I have turned down requests for at least another 20, so hurry up there is money to be made if you have the time, which I don't/

Take care
