The people we meet

OK we continue. My wife is going away for the day and I'm stuck with nothing to do. OH what a drag....all afternoon at the pool room. Man I feel guilty. hehe.
Anyway the race/challenge continues. GoldCrown vs Philly to (name your game) a race to whatever. Will play for lunch, coffee , water, IOU, a bad check, the pennies I left on the table, anything...name it...my Sears cue for your Joss, Sorry...this match will not be Streamed.....no witnesses.... just in case my old lady takes me to court :grin:

See you tomorrow at high noon, I mean 11:15. Your pennies are still there. I won't let anyone remove them. You'll find 2 extra pennies there. Think of it as interest on your investment.

11:15 confirmed. 2 pennies I get it. my 2cents right? So we'll call the series "Pool until the Fall".... a 2 Penny Opera.

I drank and played pool all night in a bar on Long Island Jerry Reed of Smokey and the Bandit fame..
When I first move down to Tampa from NY I played a famous pro wrestler in a bar in Tampa. He lost a big $20 and got so mad he turned the bar box over on it's side like it was nothing. He scared the hell out of me. Johnnyt

I met Bobby Buckley, in Brunswick Recreation (Joe's pool hall), when we were 16 years old. We were both new to pool.
I don't remember playing him, but every now and then I would see him across the room (he was a lefty) and I could tell he was going to become a good player, and he did.
Years later, when we were grown, I heard the story that Nick Varner had come through town and he and Bobby had matched up one evening at Sharkey's (now long gone).
They were playing Nine-ball and Bobby had him down in the count when someone told him who he was playing. Evidently, when the introductions were made, he had failed to make the connection between Nick Varner, and THE Nick Varner. When he realized who his opponent really was, Bobby folded like a cheap suit.
Bobby Buckley died last week at the age of 69 from the lingering effects of Agent Orange, a defoliant used in Nam.
Rest in peace Bobby. :)

I wish you did not write this. Philly said something about matts, ropes, body slams, Skull Murphy, Haystacks, Andre and BoBo. I think that is a message. I tend to CMA... I play by the door:D

Was not one of my best days. I left the pool room in a barrel. I hocked my cue. Lost the title to the car as we played pinks. I got soaked on the way out...raining like a MF. Did slip on a banana peel. To top it off a bird shiiit on me, BUT...I got a great deal on my car insurance and had fun playing pool from 12-6. I'll call it a great day. Thanks Philly for the games......and introducing me to 3C. Hey...I scored 2x.

Naturally, I accept. Any terms are fine by me.

Winners choice. I'm looking at a Pudges.....(if I get to 50 first)....Regardless an immediate rematch is in order.

It was a very intense game to 100. I took a poor shot early in the game and fell back a rack. Philly stayed ahead the entire game. He could have been nice about it and offered to buy me a coffee or bottle of water. Went home told my wife I lost.... She said I told you you're a loser. Next round no more wild shots.

Back in 2005, at Derby City, I met most of the heavy hitters in pool, and many great cue makers.
One person, in particular, comes to mind and that was Bill Marshall, aka: Willie Jopling. Bill was a trick shot artist extraordinaire, as well a very good One Pocket player.
Another fellow you all know, that I had the pleasure of meeting, was Mike Massey. Mike came through town about two years ago, giving lessons, and demonstrating artistic shots. I shook hands with him and thought I had my hand in a vise.
Two great guys, and two fine Southern Gentlemen.

Cindy & I started going up to Salem (OR) on Thursday afternoons...just messing around on the back corner table. Like the place because of the Brunswicks anniversary or Century tables. A very nice old guy also liked to play golf with the guys on the snooker table. We'd chat often...sad that he no longer makes it to the hall.

The old guy? The real life Sgt. Don Malarkey of Easy Company, "Band of Brothers".
