The Perfect Job for a pool player that has to work

Fire Dept is good depending on where you live. Some states pay state employees awful bad and some pay great. I decided not to go through with the being a firefighter because it started at $28k. Prison guards here barely make $25k. I know someone who is a guard in Illinois and he makes $50k so it all depends on where you live.

are there schools set up just to teach nursing? if the jobs are in such high demand why is it more people don't get into the field. i'm thinking about getting into this nursing thing now

Delta in Stockton has a good nursing program. It's possible you could knock out the pre-req's in a year and the nursing program is 2 years, so you could be working as a nurse in 3 years.
And yes it is hard, I saw how much time my mom spent studying while going to school. But once you get through that you will find you have an extremely stable career that pays very well. People say nurses don't get paid well, that's not true, they get paid very well. Especially in Ca.

Fireman's hours sound awful good. Any firehouses have tables? If not, I guess you're, um, hosed for a few days at a time!

Newspapers aren't so bad, either, for the total amount of hours. But you lose a lot of the prime time ... most gigs are 4-11 p.m. And few people get 2 weekend days off. Not so bad for action players, probably. But never work in the sports section! Those guys have to wait up for the West Coast games, and work weekends, of course. Then again, newspapers are morphing into 24/7 Web operations, so that's all gonna change.

Have you ever tried to get on with a Fire Dept? Good luck with that. San Francisco Fire Dept. was taking applications last month. Something like 6,000 people applied for around 80 positions.

It definitely does depend on the state. I know guys out here in California working in Corrections that are making well over $100K a year with O.T. Those guys also have a great retirement package as well, 90% of pay at 30 years. That's probobly why Ca. is going broke!

Yep nurses are in very high demand right now. I've been browsing through the job listings lately and nursing jobs make up the majority and the vast majority of decent paying jobs. Male nurses are actually in higher demand because they can move heavier patients by themselves.

I'm keeping it in consideration right now as far as what the hell am I gonna do if I get laid off. I'm a mechanical person by nature and nursing is not mechanical, but it is in high demand and will only get higher as the baby boomers retire.

A great job for someone who is mechanicly inclined is the HVAC/ Stationary Engineer trade. Medical facilities are always looking for people to employ to keep their facilities running. This is very stable employment as well. This is what I am going to school for currently and what I plan to do when I retire from the military.

Same deal here. When I went to take the test I met people from all over the country who had flown in to take the test and then flew back home.

Come to think of it, The Miz probably had the ideal job. Relatively short hours, long vacations ... but schoolteaching has got to be exhausting. I base that on having been home days (I work nights) with my 3 kids over the past 5+ years. Parents, or anybody, who either cares for or works with kids all day, whew! Wonderful, but draining.

Teaching at the college level, maybe community college, where you never have to kill yourself publishing silly papers that nobody's going to read ... that might be OK, though. Plenty of time off, and easy hours, and maybe some grownup types who'd pay some attention.

I was thinking CNC programming as well. Considering that I live in NASCAR country it's an in demand job. One point of nursing that I may really like is helping people and I could always work at a retirement community. I've always liked sitting down and hearing stories about how things used to be.

The way kids are now I would never wanna be a teacher. Let me have a paddle and I'll consider it.

What's surveying like these days? Thoreau didn't kill himself doing it. But I don't think he was half the player Mark Twain was.

Probably right
I could leave a 2x4 or a mace in the corner of the classroom. I could also put em in the rack.

ill travel around with her and play pool....jk.

my ex is an RN and the school is no joke. I was a medic/lpn/emt in the army. I tip my hat to anyone that passes that. most programs have a fairly high failure rate. and u can only fail something once. if u fail any 2 things your out of the program.

Her hubby might object to that...;) He often joins her on weekends...

You're right about the school being no joke. Our daughter took a lot of classes in high school as prep work for the nursing school. She graduated high school in the upper 5%...but had to work her butt off in the nursing school. If you don't like studying...a LOT of studying...
