A funny true story I thought I'd tell, to redeem myself for past transgressions on the board.
I was in the NCO club on Fort Lewis, WA playing pool. Now, I never ever asked anyone to play for money in there, they asked me. I was the top stick by not a HUGE margin, but I was still the top stick.
Ms. Annie the door lady was a very large lady who everyone liked, even though she had a mean streak sometimes. She had to. The NCO club used to allow 18 and older in, so all the little 18-20 year old hotties were coming from off post to hang with the soldier boys. She had to keep an eye on both the hotties and the soldiers to keep either one from doing something that might get them in trouble.
Ms. Annie had heard I had been winning money every weekend on the pool tables. "You better stop that gamblin'!"
"Yes, Ms. Annie!" I would say, chuckling. I wouldn't, though. I wasn't playing for the money. I was playing for the challenge. And when someone challenged me for money, well by gawd, I was gonna accept!.
One night I am shooting, and a stunning blonde with a prodigious bosom comes over to me and says, "Wow, you shoot pretty good!"
"Well, thank you!", says I. "Can you help me out? I was playing that guy over there, and I lost $60.00 to him. Can you play him and get it back for me?"
A stunning blonde is asking me to do her a favor, and I fall all over myself to do it. "Sure. As long as you put up the money."
"Yeah, okay.. I'll put up the money."
I play the guy, and lo and behold! I have a bad game, and he wins! I tell him, "She's got the money."
"Fort Lewis MPI. Place you hands behind you back, you're under arrest."
WTF, over? I get cuffed and walked out to the unmarked car. They put me in, take me to the MP station, where I have to fill out a statement that describes my version of the events. I made sure to write how the blonde had asked me to play. Then, I am released back to my unit.
My playing cue, a (Meucci) Maximum is confiscated as evidence. Double WTF, over?
Over the next few days, I talk to a lawyer at the Legal office on post, and she assures me that it was entrapment, as I would not have played the guy unless asked by the second MPI agent.
Still not getting my cue back, tho. It's being held while the "investigation" is ongoing. As I can't be without a playing cue, I go and buy a Steve Mizerak to play with. Some of the people I usually play with make fun of me for playing with the Mizerak. At this point, I was in their eyes "too good" of a player to play with such a beginner cue.
To make a long story short, it takes me nearly six weeks to get my cue back. Only to have it stolen later in the barracks while I am asleep after having dozed off watching Accustats videos.
It turns out the MPs couldn't find anything in the Uniform Code of Military Justice that prohibited gambling on pool.
