The pool scene is so bad in south florida....

I just heard that yet another pool room is closing in south florida. Hollywood Billiards closes tomorrow.

Wow, that is stunning news Dave. I was a regular at the Tues night tourney for many years....well before Margie bought the place...played you a few times...Bruce Pou here...

What happened?? Did the business dry up? Thought they did a good weekend business with the full liquor license. I left S Fla a couple years ago. Now live near Ocala which has a great room with 3 tourneys a week and the owner ADDS around $100 on Sunday night. Gainesville has a monthly $25 event with a calcutta. Had a ton of good times at Hollywood and was planning on stopping in there when I'm in town for a visit. Guess I'll have to go to Foster's place now. Do you know if the old Mis-Cue Lounge in Oakland Park is still there? That was my other hang out...oldest room in S. Fla.

The pool grapevine said that the rooms lease ran its term and the landlord decided he didnt want to have a pool room there anymore so they couldnt renew. The room was next to that church, maybe they had some influence on that too. Not sure though. I always like Margie and Rich as the owners there. They really loved pool and tried hard to run a room that was pool player's type homeroom. Tournaments and action were aplenty there. I hope maybe they try to start a new room. Moving and doing a buildout on new place is a huge nut though, especially right now when money is so tough to get.

I never went to Miscue but Fosters room in on Oakland park, right next to the Barbq joint so maybe it is the old miscue? The room is fairly small and has a parking issue that prevents them from running large events there. Nonetheless its got great equipment and owners that love pool. The last time I was there a few weeks ago, the owners were there and I saw all of them hitting balls. That tells you something right there about the room. They have two heated 3c tables too if you are interested in billiards.

hollywoodbilliards

thank you all for the great memories i will have of Hollywood Billiards
and all the action that has come thru for over 20 years

yes it is true the landlord did not want a pool room there anymore and i had less then a year on my lease

but the main reason i closed was that i lost my 3 year old grandson to brain cancer i had spent most of the last year and months fighting to get him better we had been to doctors all over the state of florida-denver-pa-and boston working with every new drug trial that was available. the drug trials that he was on will someday benefit other children and adults with brain cancer he had the best doctors and nurses fighting right along side of him. he passed peacefully and was not in any pain but i right now do not have the fight in me to fight the landlord or look for another place right now. thank you all again for all the memories.

please appreciate the person who owns the pool room where you go to they work very very very long hours to make it look like the room runs itself and believe me they do appreciate that out of all the places that you can go to that you choose to go to them.

Margie, while you and I have never met, I'm sorry to hear of your very painful loss. I can tell from your post that you are a very special person.
