The Preacher?

Yeah right... I know "6"es who are pro's... Nobody's ever heard of them, they just barely win, and take your money... I've seen these guys operating. No good...

It is very easy to fool any ranking system; a bit harder to fool a real person. Put me in the APA and Ill shoot a 3 all night, until someone is ready to put some money on a game.
Just last night I was playing in a real weak 8-ball tourny; I missed a break and run my first rack, but my opponent gave ball in hand the next shot and I got out. The second guy I played had the attitude that he had already lost before he played me... I absolutely hate when someone doesnt even want to try, so I thought alright pal, Im just going to torture you this game... I wont even play to win, Ill play so you loose. Of course I let the guy shoot at a bank on his last ball, and he made it to my suprise; leaving himself a thin cut in the side for the win. He goes for a kick shot rather then the scratch possible cut... well he scratches on the eight, imagine that, I had him so psyched out that he couldnt think straight.
The next game I played was a girl who didnt talk any BS... I broke and ran on her because she didnt deserve the torture.
Long story even longer... I played the guy again in the finals, he had to beat me twice, I lost the first game and asked him to play for all the money on the last game; he really didnt know what to think, so he said, "No I only have $2 in my bank, and I want at least one more drink before I leave." I felt simpathy for him, but beat him fast anyway.

It is easy to miss, especially tougher shots; and it is easy to manipulate weak minded people.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

No, he didn't say much at all. Looked quite somber, and calm. He took his money, and then said thanks with a smirk. It drove Stephan insane you could tell. He put his cues away, taking a real long time to put the joint protectors on, like he was rubbing it in and savoring th moment. Stephan wanted to fight I could tell but this cat was a big boy and he just had that "Bring a lunch it will take you all day to whip me" look about him. Then he said goobye to everyone of us he knew and strolled out just like on any other night he had been there. We were speechless. I did notice that he was whistling a tune when he went out. I think it might even have been a hymn, no BS!!!!!!! It was absolutely classic. You could not have made up a better story!!

PS He never played ay lock up safeties in that set for ten grand...he never missed!!! That was what was so incredible!!

That guy was a worldbeater. Can you tell us what happend when the guy first started coming in the place. Like what did he do. He must have known that stephan was the big fish in the place and was just patiently waiting for him to bite..

I dunno... sandbagging for five months just to set up one $10k score seems like a lot of investment for little return. It could be that this guy was just on fire that one night. *shrug*

I wouldn't be surprised if he had this kind of thing going in several places in different areas all at the same time...

I thought of that but as I said before, we found out he hit the whole area with similar scams. He also came in a lot (most weeks at least three nights minimum) and like I said, while he lost some here and there, he normally won a couple hundred each time he was in. I figure he made enough to live on during this time. He was already up 3 grand so thirteen total was a decent score. I don't think anyone could just get this lucky. Anything is possible but ten racks on tight pockets is not possible without some skill. I haven't verified it yet but a buddy of mine said he took Kevin Parker (Chattsworth GA) for thirty grand on a bar table. If this is true, it would have had to have happened in either Chattsworth or Dalton GA and this is a long way from us. If so, he travels a lot. The Preacher said he was from Pine Log GA. This is a piss ant town that is barely on the map. I doubt he told the truth but I was hoping someone knew him and could verify some of this stuff.

Met Don "The Preacher" Feeney at Chris's in Chicago some time ago. Played him some 9 ball, and a bit of straight pool. I won a few of the 9 ball games; he whipped me at straight.

He has an incredible amount of knowledge and is able to teach it very well. I learned quite a few things from him on another occasion regarding different kinds of strokes. If anybody ever tells you that such and such isn't a good stroke, you probably haven't seen The Preacher do it. He'll straighten things out right away. I asked him what a slip stroke was, and he showed me. Showed me a lot. I asked him how he'd shoot a specific shot. He shot it, with a bit of a swoop and draw. The cue ball went exactly where I'd asked him to put it. How'd he shoot that shot? With a bit of back hand english. After he did it, he said, now that was a legitimate stroke. Yes it was, and playing there, and asking him different questions opened my eyes to a ton of stuff.

Quite a gentleman, too.

He came in and just practiced by himself. He never said much and finally a regular named Richard invited him to join our no safety allowed ring game. He said ok, joined in and basically just became one of the guys. Not much changed. He never asked much about other players or who was the big fish as you call him. If he had he would have learned that Stephan was a great player but not the top money man. He didn't seem to care actually. He was very friendly. I really liked him and if he came back in I still would. He used to even take a couple of the guys home if they had too much to drink. Weird:rolleyes: I can't really say what he was thinking. I wish I could meet him again just to find out. Can you imagine what stories a guy like that could tell. Man what a book that would be!!

He now lives in "The Villages" here in central Florida. He was coming into the local bar for a while and played in the tournament a couple times. Won it once and was two and out another time that I watched him.

He is nice and smooth and a real gentleman.

Last time I saw him was at the KOTH in Orlando. I believe he is giving lessons to one of the women from the Spirit Tour.

I know that is a awesome story. I will be giving you some rep points for that one. Thanks for sharing..

Makes me think of the movie Kingpin, with Bill Murray and Woody Harrelson. Harrelson just got caught hustling a couple guys, one of whom was dressed like a priest. He says, "Father ya gotta help me." The priest looks at him and rolls up his sleeves revealing a tattoo, and says, "Yeah, I'm a priest like you're a ****in' dictionary salesman."

Yeah I know it's lame, but I thought it was funny.

I haven't been back here in awhile. When did we start editing language? Not that I care, just curious.

Ya he says I have only one vice in life and thats betting on bowling. He then smacks the girls ass orders her to get him a beer and says with a straight face "well two vices" hahaha

You said "the preacher" got crazy weight to play for 10 large, and then ran the set out. What was the weight?......because breaking and running to the 6 or 7 is MUCH different than going to the 9......just curious:D

Whoops!!! I am sorry I wasn't clear. I thought I put this in the original post but you are correct, I somehow didn't think to write it. During the time when Stephan was so pissed, he talked a lot of trash and The Preacher played a little dumb. So finally after cussing him and calling him a lot of names Stephan said something like "if you really want to play lets shoot for 10 thousand straight up!!" The Preacher,by the way, never blinked. I was trying to make the post fairly short and forgot to explain they were shooting even when they went for the 10 grand. Before this Stephan was giving the seven, last two and the break. Too much weight to begin with. Stephan is a good solid ten speed which in GA seems to be considered more like a nine in other states I have been in. Apparently, other than the Scorpion and a few others, you other staes don't think much of our game here in the Peach State. Stephan is not a Walden or pro quality player but he plays bang up safeties and is one of the better bank pool players I have ever seen. I know he has run over 100 in straight pool but I am not sure what his high run is. He is to much of a jerk to talk to very much, so I can't tell you much more. I don't like him and as I said before, I think he got what he deserved. Any way, sorry for the misunderstanding.:o

i got a guy wanting to give me the seven out, plus the breaks in a race to ten for a hundred next week... i've also got a guy willing to back me...

do you really think thats an amazing spot? i think it is, but i said the bet just joking to him and he said ok without thinking about it.

hustlers are everywhere, you'll never know some of the BEST players EVER because well they are hustlers...

FYI watch out for a guy who comes in, in a mailmans outfit... i have heard of him before too.. anyone else seen that guy? i think 1p is his game...

people can despise these types of players but in all honesty isnt' that what all pool players do? They send it in when they think they have the best of it and try to win money... deception occurs on every front because every person that gambles thinks they are supposed to win the game so why is this different? and if you are gambling when you think you should lose well then you must just like to peel off your bankroll... and that seems pretty silly in my opinion..
