The Preacher?

I'm not wanting to make this personal and insult the person that posted  somewhere above me, I just want to say that it's guy that thinks with his balls rather than his brain %99.9 of the time that gets hustled.(yes I know %99.9 of stats are made up on the spot including this one)

I'm not against gambling, I do it on a semi regular basis, but in every situation that I've seen or heard of someone getting hustled, the guy that got hustled got his back up and made a stupid bet because he was:

a) drunk, stoned or somehow impaired
b) just got beat and his pride was hurt
c) is too cocky and wasn't paying attention to the signs

once again, just my $0.02 canadian

I can tell you this... the Road Dogs Special Pechauur was made in the late 90's, and came from Road Dogs Pool Room, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I lived and played there back then, but I don't remember any "Preacher" Chuck.

Hey what is described is hardly a hustle....Guy gets beat for the money once bets big and gets hammered....Anyone with half a brain should never show true speed just be good enough to win...So the preacher had a hidden gear so what...Not showing your true speed is a gamblers first move...

I don't play great by anyone's measure but I play very solid...And if I played to my best ability I would have much fewer people to gamble with....You make it look good if you can and get out for the $$$$$....Its not like he snuck up on a D player....The fact that he was willing to gamble for 10 Gs with a very good player should have been a major Warning Sign

hustlers are everywhere, you'll never know some of the BEST players EVER because well they are hustlers...

FYI watch out for a guy who comes in, in a mailmans outfit... i have heard of him before too.. anyone else seen that guy? i think 1p is his game...

people can despise these types of players but in all honesty isnt' that what all pool players do? They send it in when they think they have the best of it and try to win money... deception occurs on every front because every person that gambles thinks they are supposed to win the game so why is this different? and if you are gambling when you think you should lose well then you must just like to peel off your bankroll... and that seems pretty silly in my opinion..

If anyone remember's randy vaughn from tennessee he did a good hustle on are local shortstop. This shortstop plays good one pocket and decent 9 ball. Anyways randy comes in the poolroom dressed up as a cable guy. Parks this old crappy van out front and comes in playing like a banger. He ends up gambling until the shortstop shows up and then he bust him. Nobody could believe that this local cable guy who never comes in beat the best in town. I knew who it was just kept my mouth shut.

holy crap i just remebered a guy that came in our pool hall about three weeks ago and his named was chuck, and he said he was traveling and from oklahoma he didnt try to hustle anyone, he didnt play anyone but me a couple of games for fun, and he taught me how to play 1-pocket, he was wearing kahkis and well dressed and had light colored hair pretty big guy.

do you really think thats an amazing spot? i think it is, but i said the bet just joking to him and he said ok without thinking about it.

Depends how good you are and how good he is.

Grossman was giving the 6 out but I couldn't stick around to see how bad Dave got beat. Or did he?

That sounds like him!! According to your profile you are in Rome GA. That puts him in the general area. He was always dressed well, just like you described, and his hair was light brown. He was graying and it looked like he dyed it because over the months he was here you could tell the roots were gray. He had a black tube style case (3 X six or so). He had a Predator cue towl hanging on the case. If I remember the details of the cue it was Pechaur like I described, light stained maple with ebony points, ivory diamonds and a leather wrap. The but of the cue below the wrap had ebony and maple squares and ivory diamonds in the ebony. Stainless joint. Nice cue. He had a habit of talking to the balls a lot (except when he was winning that last set, he didn't talk at all then). He didn't play any one pocket with us that I know of. If you see him again l me know.
