The Reyes Cup

With Gorst being in the process of becoming US citizen would he have been eligible for this? If he was i'm sure he'd have been on team. Filler would have helped but based on the little i saw they would have needed three Fillers. They got hammered.
I saw the whole thing, every match, being on vacation. They didn’t need three Fillers. Just one, the real one, would have helped immensely.

There wasn't much "team unity" between Team Asia either. You just need to look at their seating arrangements and chats during the team matches. Having said that, the way "team" is done is different in Asia than it is in the "West". Asians don't "play their hearts out" in the same way Europe has and the USA occasionally has in recent Mosconi Cups. They just play and are stronger as a group already without the need to constantly tell everyone they are a team.

Asia played better and won, and Yapp and Duong stepped up (partly because their team mates believed in them from the start without any need for a show of "team unity").

Also, the event wasn't one-sided. The score was 11-6. Asia cleaned up on day 2. Other than than it was close and Europe actually won day 4.
Sorry, this is flat wrong. I saw the entire tournament. Team Asia showed tremendous unity. So much it actually surprised me. Yapp was lit up by his teammates - Carlo even hugged him. Duong was estatic. Ko and Johann cheered everybody on.

The crowd on the final day was reported at 2500. Panazzo said there were at least a thousand each day in the first three days. Day 4 had a large crowd and the event was arguably as noisy as any Mosconi, at least on TV, despite a cavernous stadium. Bob might think differently being there.

Not all are paranoid pea brains. The knowledge is available if not exactly on CNN.
I don’t like to call people names or insult anyone. I am glad I am blissfully naive and not endlessly cynical like you. Would be impossible for me to live like that.

i think you are wrong, very, wrong, and I will leave it at that.

I saw the entire tournament too. Asia played better and won without the need to show team unity. I agree, they showed tremendous unity. I actually said that. Which part of my post was flat wrong?

Uh, you wrote this.

i don’t think you need to show team "unity" to win, as you say, but I did see plenty of it. And the players iexpressed as much in MR interviews.

Yes I did. I include the inverted commas and then added some context. If you are being a tw@t please go away. If you are mistaken, I apologise for misunderstanding "flat wrong".
If you believe, as I do, that the Asian players showed unity, team spirit and enjoyment being around each other I have no disagreement.

They didn’t win because of that, but it certainly didn’t hurt.

At the end of the night, Chua said unprompted he hoped the whole team could be back together next year. Ko might differ because of his brother, but it was a fitting statement.

I think they are incredibly useful and that it's good television.
You think that seeing a closeup of a cueball while the player shoots the critical shot of a match, so that you can't actually see whether the ball is made or whether position is gotten, is useful? Agree to disagree...

Aye, but it's all too easy for the finger pointers to talk about Europe not showing "team unity" while ignoring the fact that Asia "looked" anything but a team during the team games. Loada nonsense, both teams played to win and Asia got the job done. And they got it done quietly.

... But one thing that I will never understand is the camerawork during these major tournaments. Someone tell the directors that extreme closeups of the cueball before it's about to be hit are not useful. ...
I didn't notice that particular problem, but what I did notice is that the director repeatedly cut away from the critical part of the shot. Often they would cut to something irrelevant just before the cue ball was struck. Or when position was critical and the cue ball was rolling to maybe a hook or maybe perfect position, they would switch to the opponent's reaction. My conclusion is that the director knew little about pool. Where is Helfert when you need him?

I think Europe showed plenty of unity. Kaci’s disagreements with Shaw got tongues wagging, but I saw nothing unhealthy in it.

i also think Asia was more vocal and emotional than I expected, but it was mainly Chua and Ko with a side of Biado.

Anything specific? I describe, not the changing world, but the paradigm in the big picture. The population is just tools in the grand scheme.

I don’t agree, and I see no reason to discuss it, unless it’s in a bar over a beer. We just see the world differently and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I go to bars for the one pool table and the chance at 5 minutes of actual pool. Don't drink either. Even in school and doing my scholarly intellectual phase, alcohol and pizza led only to hysteria.
About the world, as populations grow, so will the corporate wiggle room shrink. Forget opinions. Guess what happens then.
