The Rocket Video

would this dvd benefit advanced players?

My honorary nephew viewed parts of it with me...he enjoyed it. He's a BCAPL grand master. Is that advanced enough?

He really enjoyed the parts where Rodney talked on some of the mental aspects of the game. I'm pretty sure he learned something there. He also enjoyed Rodney explaining his shot selections.

Yeah your nephew is a world beater. Nice guy and great player up there in the Northwest. Look forward to seeing him next month at CWO. :)

Well Lenny, I'd say this is one of the few videos that would be a benefit to advanced players. More so than to a recreational player like me. Oh, I had a rudimentary understanding of all Rodney was demonstrating...but to actually do it? Well, that would take somebody with more skill than me. But I'm okay with that...I really thought the video was well worth the price in knowledge gained.

From my viewpoint, Rodney glosses over the basics of stance and aiming and then gets to the meat of the game. That's fine because there has already been much done on the basics.

Watching Rodney on a stream, he makes it look so easy. Fast and loose, with the demeanor of a guy out for a fun evening with friends. This video gives insight to what is going through his mind as he plays. His thought process amazes me...making difficult decisions in a heartbeat and then carrying them off.

I also enjoyed his thoughts on the psychological aspects of the game. These parts found me hoping that Matt (honorary nephew) was really listening. Yes, there were shots Matt said he'd play differently. Probably because of his slightly lower than Rodney's skill level. More than once Matt said "This is a hell of a lot more difficult than it looks."

Matt lost his dad at a very young age. His dad was my college roommate, and my "best buddy"...thus the "honorary nephew" bit. If I had the bucks I'd definitely sponsor him for a year or two of entering the big tournaments, let him get his brains beaten out by the big boys.

I'm not sure what "advanced" is?

I've run a couple 80 something's in straight pool(goal is 100+). I've broke and ran 11 racks of 9-ball in a row using a magic rack. I've ran many packages of 8-ball, which I don't play much. I have a few 8and outs in one pocket(favorite game). I usually only practice 10-ball and I'm constantly running a couple racks in an hr practice session!

If this is an "advanced" player, then YES, you will want this video!

Don't buy this video if your looking for advanced foot techniques and proper stick eye assSun moon alignment! Your not gonna get that!

What your gonna get is the true insight of probably one of the best players ever! His explanations of his own thoughts are incredible! I watched it 4 times already and keep getting something out of it! Gonna watch it again later;)

I plan to get this soon but not sure if I want the DVD or digital version...does the DVD also include the digital option or not (I know that's common for some things, like buying a record/cd)? If so then I'd get that as it would be nice to have both.

A PM or email to Lenny should answer that question. I got the DVD. My thinking is that computers can crash...but as long as I have a way to play the DVD, I can view it.

You won't regret your purchase. :)

So I got in a cheap game last night, 100 a set 9-ball to 5! I played average, nothing spectacular but as the night was moving forward I was slowly falling!

Anyway, 5or6th set in, I was really struggling. It was 4-2 him and he made a couple mistakes and I got lucky to go hill-hill! I break dry and leave a Cosmo:( anyway, he miscues making a good hit leaving me tough(not a Cosmo anymore)

I make a spectacular shot on the 4 to get perfectly in line! Play the 5"ok" and 6 pretty bad! I make the the 6, tough on the 7, same to 8! I get tough on the 9 and I have a small talk with myself. "All you have to do is make this ball, don't worry about position, just make it"!

So I look at the shot, get in my stance and start my psr! On my final practice stroke I realized I was looking at the shot completely different than the others! I was only thinking about making it! I got up and thought about what Rodney said in the video about the last ball,,,,, I said "ok" cue ball 2 rails over "here"! Got down, shot it, drilled it, and got where I wanted!

That one shot brought my game right back to where it was suppose to be! 2 sets later, my opponent says I've been hustling him;) we stopped there;) and I felt good!

I'm always amazed at how 1 shot can take you from playing completely poor to great(and vice versa)! That's what I always found fascinating about the sport!

Again, I need to thank Rodney and Lenny!
Thanks guys
Eli

Eli, that's funny in a hmmm way. You good players must appreciate the same things. My honorary nephew also found that last shot comment by Rodney meaningful enough to say "Great concept"...

Definitely something for everybody in this DVD...Yesterday I used Rodney's kicking advice. :)

Out of curiosity, who is your "honorary" nephew?

Ah heck, he doesn't fly under the radar in these parts anymore. Name is Matt Horner. Don't know that he's the "world beater" as Lenny described, but he is a talented amateur.

The DVD doesn't come with the digital version. I can offer both for $49.95 so it saves you. Its $39.95 for the DVD and $29.95 for the digital download/access if purchased separately. Digital download can be played on many devices which is nice.

Is the name of this video "The Rocket "? Can't seem to find anything on it. Sorry for the dumb question...

It is called Rocket's Science.

Nice. I do like what Rodney said about how the whole rack you play position for a ball so even on the money ball you should still have the same mindset of placing your cue ball somewhere. :)

Just a bump to remind people of one of the most informative DVD for the pool enthusiast of almost all levels!

From an APA standpoint, the 1-2's really won't understand much of what he's talking about. But 3's and up should have this in there arsenal! Extremely well done!

I watched it again today listening to the stories section! So cool!

Great Video From A Great Guy,!!!!

I Got Mine Directly From Rodney At The ''Turning Stone'',,,
It Greatly Helped Me With My Bridge,,,
Not Only Is It Loaded With Information,,,But It's Lots Of Fun To View As Rodney Incorporates His Great Sense Of Humor Into It.
The Parts Of Rodney Speaking Candidly Were Awesome....!!!
