The shaft choice

So many shafts and so many choices. I have shot a lot with a Meucci Black Dot and am very pleased with it. No, I seldom remember to put the dot up. I tried a 314-2 on my new Diveney Custom ebony Hustler and could not warm up to it. Ya got me as some love them. The Lakesalvage shaft on my Diveney cue is my favorite. For some reason it just hits well for me and potting balls with it is easy if I do my part. So I just reached the conclusion we are all different and have to find what works best for our selves. Besides, Mosconi, Hoppe and Reyes used a regular shaft and if I can shoot half as good as them I should win most of my games around here!

I always hear good things about these salvage shafts. I wonder if I could convince Royce to make me some OB Classic Lake Salvage Specials. We could call them OBCLSS-LD! It rolls right off the tongue :D

I play with some Bender sunken wood shafts as well....love the play of them...I have them made 31" and absolutely love them...

What is it that you like about them so much?

Lou Figueroa

I may not use the right terminology.... I have a total of 4, two from the same board...literally piece A and B were right side by side...so they play almost exactly the same. I have had numerous people shoot with both and people couldn't tell them apart.. They both weigh in at 4.9 oz with intensely tight grain..They hit....solid...very little deflection...I have inch long ivory ferrules and kamui black mediums on them (switching to browns soon) I use a 14" straight taper with 12.9mm Mine are all 5/16 x14 piloted joints I use to shoot LD shafts and then tried standard maples and these are like the best of both worlds...

If you are ever around I will be glad to let you hit with them...

I just have a hard time believing that salvaged wood hits any better than regular good quality maple. Seems like another marketing ploy. I'll have to hit one some day and see if it is any different. In my experience so far, material differences are highly overrated in regards to what a cue can do to a cb.

Next time you are in Manhattan let me know...be glad to let you...to me it makes a difference...it might not to you...
