Shooting a level cue dead center at the cue ball, that is how to shoot normally.

Is English when the cue is level and not aimed at the center of the cue ball? Or is it when you aim at the center but stroke in different direction from the center.

Normal stroke?: like center through -(0)-
English? like the stroke through ends high -(0)`

I get confused when the cue is not level has an angle, like shooting off the rail, is that called English too?

I read the lit, recreate the diagrams and shots, but still get confused sometimes had a few people coach me. But I get it confused still.

English with the cue elevated is called "masse", although you may not be going for that effect. There are really only a few things to know about how you contact the ball, left/right spin (english), low-high hit (draw or follow), combination of those with cue elevations is a masse or jump, with a level cue is just "low-right" and so on.
