The Ugliest 5 Seconds of League Pool Ever!

I was playing the same guy I played maybe 6 weeks ago, APA, a long established SL6. No problem, I gave him a doughnut last time 5-0. Played him tonight, wasn't paying attention and we were 3-3. One of his teamates exclaimed in surprise that he was on the hill. I looked at her as soon as I was done racking holding up three fingers. She said "He's a five!" As soon as it registered what that meant, the guy snaps in the eight on the break! lol

We ended up laughing about it and I bought him a drink, but man, what a cruel game this can be sometimes! :)

It seems like every time I lose an APA league match this always happens to me also. My opponent "sneaks" up on me to win it. I guess I get too focused (if that is possible) on the table layouts and what I need to do to run out that I don't realize sometime that my opposition is on the hill. I don't do a whole lot of talking when I shoot my match, and on most days can tune out distractions to the point where when the match is over, I start to hear all the noise around me. I ask my scorekeeper before my lag how many games I need to win. Sometimes I ask how many my opponent needs to win, sometimes I don't. Usually I just try to pot balls, stay focused, and play until someone yells "match".

I have yet to lose a match by my opponent making an 8-ball on the break. That's just tough luck right there.

You haven't played me then; for some reason, I've ended three hill hill APA matches that way. I have the patch to prove it.

I played my second match as a 7 last night. My record in games as a 7 is now 11-0; beat a 7 last week 5-0 and a 3 this week 6-0. It's a hell of a fun game when you're on a hot streak.

And actually come to think of it, my last match as a 6, I beat a 5, 5-0. I haven't lost a game of APA in at least 16 games. Man, I better play somebody soon who's not going to leave me road-map 4 ball stop-shot outs every rack, just to get some perspective back.

If you want a killer of a story, I was playing CPA (Canadian division of the APA) league years ago. Playing bar box 8-ball, I had to play a 5, and I was a 6 at the time. Race is 5-4. First rack, I make the 8 in the side on the break. Next break, same thing. Third rack, same break, but 8 hangs in the side pocket. Ran out. 4th rack, break dry. Opponent runs a few and misses. I run the rack out. 5th rack, 8-ball in the side yet again. I win 5-0, total innings 1. 4 pins in one match - still talked about every time I go back to that bar.

I hate when that happens but I can laugh with you, it still hurts. On the opposite side of the coin, last night I met with the captain of my team for some 9 ball practice (he is a 9 in 9ball and 7 in 8ball). We lagged for the break and I won (I am currently a 5 in both). So he goes down and racks them up for me to break and wham.... 9 on the snap right out of the box. I told him my practice was over.:D I had one shot and won the game. Now he wants a rematch:confused: guess I'll have to find some time to do it again:rolleyes:
