The UPA

Is the UPA done? I have not heard a peep from them in a while. And no scheduled events.

Good Question

I once applied to offer my services to them in any way possible, was met with an attitude I didn't care for at all, and was treated like a peon, so I could care less about them. They seemed concerned about their importance and grand scheme of things, but I haven't seen much progress for the sport because of them. Have you?

I posted this in another thread, but I have talked with the UPA and this is going to be a growth year. Maybe you should give them a call and find out what's cooking. :)

The UPA was bought out by Frank Alvarez and Charlie Williams is no longer involved with the UPA other than as a player and his Dragon Promotions will be sponsoring a few events. Mr. Alvarez has a lot in the works and the future looks very promising. I wouldn't expect to see anything other than the normal six tourney's this yr.... Valley Forge, US Open, BCA, Predator Open in Jacksonville, World Summit, & UPA Championships.

I haven't talked to Frank in quite awhile about it but the last we spoke, this yr was going to be more of a transition yr and he expects to have bigger, better tour starting next yr.

I'm just wondering,

How much do we think the UPA is worth?

I don't expect to be told the actual amount, just wanted to incite some discussion. :)

what is any tour worth? in this case, the organization is pulling together professional male players into one arena and providing an outlet to advance their skills. i suppose you could ask that question of any tour and in my opinion, just like purchasing a house, it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay to take it on. just my two cents.

hey there snapshot - I have helped with the UPA for many years and have not met with the same response as you mentioned above. I would have to ask when you offered your services and to whom if you received such a bad response. As far as the progress for the sport not being made because of the UPA (or any tour for that matter), I am curious to know why you would think that the UPA could actually stall the progress in the sport and how.

hey there Fleece - the schedule is currently being worked on and as it was mentioned below, the tour is in a transition phase, so it is taking a bit longer than usual.

Yeah, but won't it be worth more after the Ho deal and the impending IPO ?

I think as long as Charlie Williams doesnt have his hands in the kitty, the UPA will succeed. Frankie will do a great job.
