Mr. 100 has a tough shot situation. I would not want to have to play this!

Who would win between Willie Hoppe and Raymond Ceulemans when both were in their prime. I have my opinion. What is yours?

hit opposite long rail with 1 o'clock English on 1 diamond from corner also known as diamond 10 go 2 rails through red ball and hit third rail long rail before hitting yellow ball.

Not to take anything away from Willie Hoppe....but.... given the different eras and the equipment changes that have been made I would still pick Raymond Ceulemans.

My interview with the legendary Raymond Ceulemans has been postponed. I called him this morning but he is not feeling well. His physician was in route as we spoke. I trust he will be fine and all of us wish him a quick recovery. We have penciled in next week barring any issues.

Thank you.

I think Ray C. would kill Hoppe just my opinion.

TOTALLY disagree, A GREAT player is a GREAT player! Hoppe would of adapted to the "Modern" equipment, just like RC would have adapted to the "Older" equipment. Throughout RC's career, his general avg. was1.3, Hoppe on the OLD stuff was 1.168 with "deliberate safeties." Proof in the pudding is, RC has stepped up his game to even be competitive with the current players, his general avg. lately is around 1.5, amazing in its self!
Even RC himself was asked, "How do you think Hoppe would do today?" He replied, " a GREAT player can adjust to equipment, Hoppe was a GREAT player!"

These are all fun to think about. Someday maybe there'll be a time machine.

If you look at Ceulemans averages a little closer you will see them gradually increasing from beginning to end of his career with some exceptional averages toward the end. A true sign of a champion. Already the best but raises his game to meet the circumstances. The young punks snapping at his heals.

You will see the same thing if you look at Hoppe's record. Starting in the world theatre @ 1.0 average then gradually rising just ahead of Cochran and the rest of the gang.

At the time of Hoppe rein as you mention, safety play was the strategy vs today's more aggressive scoring strategy. I'm sure Hoppe passed up makeable shots since the safe was too difficult if he missed. As you know averages drop like a rock with a couple blank innings. One blank inning means you need double the next. Without large runs, 2 or 3 blanks destroy an average.

We'll never know but averages don't tell the whole story. Both are superb champions of the finest order.

Don't believe it would be a killing either way.

Me: I agree with you. What is it that you totally disagree about and to whom?

This will not negate either fast eddief or numer13cfan statements but I would like to take a poll. Like Tom indicated, we can only infer based on information who may have beat who regarding arguably the 2 greatest 3c players of all time. But it is only an educated guess from us carom forum subscribers. I will also ask Mr. 100 his thoughts regarding a match up with Willie Hoppe. Again we all hope Mr.Ceulemans is feeling better.

It seems Mr. Ceulemans is much better.
