The WAY back machine.....

A sentence at the end:

"Danny DiLiberto (.949) outplayed Efren Rayea (.737) in a near perfect match with both players missing only one ball apiece. DiLiberto won the match 11-3 and Saturday'a $100 bonus."

A spelling error? Or was there an Efren Rayea? Danny must have been one hell of a player....949 is great shooting.

It was a very strong field and yes that is Efren Reyes. This event is notable in that it was Accu-Stats first time video-taping a pro tournament. They had previously only shot individual matches to sell to the competing players, but now they were taping the best players in all the most important matches until the tournament concluded. It is the first tournament in their now extensive inventory!

This was the about same timeframe I was watching Danny Medina with apron on, honing his skills at the pool room near me in Denver CO. A cool piece of history! Thanks for posting Garczar!

winner $5.3K in 1987 dollars is about $12K in today's dollars which is much more than many of today's regional events.
