The Wild Rose - 2x4 - $1500

Marvelous case, one of the most beautiful I've seen.

I'm curious, if you bought it, would you keep it out of sight or take it to the hall? I would take it out for a ride for sure.

Case is sold. I will still leave the contest open for the correct guess.

Here's a hint, one of them is boxing's greatest promoter and the other one took the rose to more depths than anyone before him.

the saddlemaker don king who created his own style of rose tooling like the top rose on the back of the case that's viewed at 45 degrees? he tooled wild roses on his cases to give it the appearance of viewing it at a 45 degree angle.

John, that is without question the most beautiful case I've ever seen. I REALLY like that one... right down to the "wavy" zipper pulls! You've raised the bar several notches.

Someone got functional art. John, you work keeps getting better, and better...Plus farther, and farther out of the box.

Thank you everyone for the compliments. This case is a team effort. It is possible for us to make cases like this because of the journey we are on.

As I have told several customers who are patiently and eagerly awaiting their cases, we are slow because we are always pushing the limits and trying to make cases which no one has done before. I cannot allow our shop to just put out cookie cutter cases where the surface decoration is just a little different each time. Because of that I am always pushing everyone to experiment and just try.

So we will always be putting out cases here and there like this one which show a different way to build and decorate a cue case along side the custom orders we do. This is part of what keeps it fun for me and our team.

The full credit on this case for the concept and execution of this case belongs to our tooler, Zhen Hai Lee. Although our shop name goes on the case and he has learned the craft under my tutelage I can't personally take credit for this case. Zhen Hai designed it from the ground up and I let him run with it.

To whomever compared this case to what the great Chas Clements has done, thank you. While I am humbled by this designation and thankful for it I have to say that we still have a ways to go to reach Chas' level of creativity in design and tooling. Chas Clements however is my role model and is the one tooler and case builder that I hold up as the best example for us to follow. So thank you.

For everyone who sent in the great responses to the Wild Rose question here is the answer and if you all send your address to me then I will also send you an Ultra Pad polishing cloth someday.

The wild rose is the most tooled flower in North American western tooling. Don King took it and started tooling it in other postions to give it more depth. His style came to be known as the Sheridan style of tooling.

Again, thank you everyone for the compliments.
